More 2nd edition was played this weekend, with the Imperial Guard taking their turn to feel the wrath of my Cult. We played the Tyranid Attack mission and gave the Guard some sturdy defences, but this wasn't enough to save them from the Cults many grasping arms. #Oldhammer #Warhammer40k #Nerdlings

Some brightly coloured alien miniatures advance across a lurid battlefield of ruins and skull shaped idols.

The soldiers of the Imperial Guard wait patiently in their defences, anticipating the inevitable attack.

A Cult landspeeder, supported by a small squad of infantry, banks round some ruins to flank the defenders and open fire on their flank.

On the right flank the Cults tank and infantry advances through the ruins, whilst on the main command bunker the patriarch and his brood step out of a warp portal to tear the Imperial commander in to soggy confetti.

My first two games of Warhammer 40K 3rd edition! My Necron force goes against an absolute gun line of a Space Marines army. #warhammer40k #midhammer #necrons #spacemarine #tabletopwargaming #miniaturepainting

The Necrons cower behind terrain in fear of the enemy firepower.

The Attack Bikes (with 2+ armour saves!) and two Dreadnoughts advance while backed up by infantry with plenty of missiles to rain down on the Necrons.

Though the Necron Gauss weaponry are not too effective against Space Marine power armour, they can do better against walkers that take glancing hits on 6s. The warriors manage to destroy a Dreadnought's powerfist, allowing the Tomb Spyder to close in for the finish.

The Scarabs Swarms prove to be surprisingly effective against the Marine Scouts. Having overwhelmed them in combat they gain valuable ground.

More reinforcements for my second edition 40k Ultramarines. Plastic Terminator squad from 96/97. These were bought painted in about 12 layers of paint and was quite the restoration job. Always enjoy bringing new life to old miniatures 😀

I played my first game of Warhammer 40K 5th edition, which is my second game of Warhammer 40K of any edition! My Necrons assault the Imperial defences. #warhammer40k #midhammer #tabletop #wargaming

In the early rounds, the Necrons Warriors suffer casualties as they advance. The concentrated shots of the Imperial Stormtroopers whittle down the troops of living metal, while they manage to make use of cover to protect themselves from retaliatory shots.

The Necron Destroyers are easily taken down in a single round of shooting.

Just because you have mobility and assault weapons, it doesn't mean you should swoop into melta range, I suppose.

The beginning of the end for the defenders of the Imperium, as the Necron Lord leads a charge to engage the humans in deadly melee.

A unit after another, the Necron Lord cuts down the enemy until the Imperial commander is felled by its bladed staff. The Necrons break through.
