More 2nd edition was played this weekend, with the Imperial Guard taking their turn to feel the wrath of my Cult. We played the Tyranid Attack mission and gave the Guard some sturdy defences, but this wasn't enough to save them from the Cults many grasping arms. #Oldhammer #Warhammer40k #Nerdlings

Some brightly coloured alien miniatures advance across a lurid battlefield of ruins and skull shaped idols.

The soldiers of the Imperial Guard wait patiently in their defences, anticipating the inevitable attack.

A Cult landspeeder, supported by a small squad of infantry, banks round some ruins to flank the defenders and open fire on their flank.

On the right flank the Cults tank and infantry advances through the ruins, whilst on the main command bunker the patriarch and his brood step out of a warp portal to tear the Imperial commander in to soggy confetti.

Today I learnt that Blood Ravens aren't (necessarily) a successor chapter of the Blood Angels.

Going to try Xenos Rampant tomorrow using 20mm Eldar and Blulu Lemon Space Marines. 3x3 foot table and measuring sticks in 2cm increments.

I've been playing 3rd with a group. 4th with 3rd edition codex would be ideal but beggars can't be choosers in the midhammer community.

Opinions wanted! If the Custodian Coronus transport (and its tank variants, sorry, I'm not too familiar with modern 40k stuff) had all imperial markings removed, might they look more sci-fi than grimdark? I'm considering this vehicle design for my Tau-ish army. #minipainter ＃warhammer40k

I’m happy to present my take on the saviour of Clacton, a true British hero… Count Binface! This excellent miniature is from Troublemaker Games and £3 from each purchase goes to the NHS. Still a few days to go until the Clacton by election too. #VoteBinface #CountBinface #ReformOut #Nerdlings

A miniature of Count Binface, man wearing a bin on his head with silver armour and a flowing silver cape. He is standing on the beach crushing a blue can under his foot, you can see “REF” printed on the can. Front View.

Partly because I was actually supposed to be expanding my 40k army, instead of spontaneously thinking about making a boardgame.

I can't help but feel I got a little carried away with my endeavour of building a Space Hulk like modular tileset to playtest my own boardgame. Sci-fi tiles by @cspkris.bsky.social purchased on www.drivethrurpg.com/en/publisher... #warhammer40k #spacehulk #boardgame #miniatures #minipainting

The second game was against the Tyranids. Both armies were painte in green colour schemes with green bases. So much green, yet not a single Ork in sight! #warhammer40k #midhammer #necron #tyranid #tabletopwargaming #miniaturepainting

The Necrons prepare for the Tyranid assault.

The Hormagaunts and the Warriors rush into engage the Tomb Spyder and the Scarab Swarms, despite taking shots from the Necron Gauss fire.

After losing the Destroyers on the flank by a Lictor ambush, supported by some Ravenors, the Necron Lord and his nearby Warriors teleport into better positions. The Warriors shoot down the remaining synapse unit to throw the hive army into disarray. The Necron Lord takes down the Lictor, not before being reduced to one wound himself.

With the Termagants fleeing off the battlefield, Biovores (artillery) going on a suicidal charge and the Hormagaunts getting taken out by the Scarabs (who prove to be resilient again!), the Tyranid army have completely lost coherence. Finally the Carnifex hides behind the ruined building. It has done nothing this game.

My first two games of Warhammer 40K 3rd edition! My Necron force goes against an absolute gun line of a Space Marines army. #warhammer40k #midhammer #necrons #spacemarine #tabletopwargaming #miniaturepainting

The Necrons cower behind terrain in fear of the enemy firepower.

The Attack Bikes (with 2+ armour saves!) and two Dreadnoughts advance while backed up by infantry with plenty of missiles to rain down on the Necrons.

Though the Necron Gauss weaponry are not too effective against Space Marine power armour, they can do better against walkers that take glancing hits on 6s. The warriors manage to destroy a Dreadnought's powerfist, allowing the Tomb Spyder to close in for the finish.

The Scarabs Swarms prove to be surprisingly effective against the Marine Scouts. Having overwhelmed them in combat they gain valuable ground.

Two more ideas for armies that I probably won't be able to collect: 1. WWII themed Blood Axe Orks 2. Rat based Genestealer Cult (possibly using Mantic Veer-myn)

I'm going to go with bases, on the basis (no pun intended) that the battle scene photos featured on old White Dwarf back covers did use minis with bases.

I played my first game of Warhammer 40K 5th edition, which is my second game of Warhammer 40K of any edition! My Necrons assault the Imperial defences. #warhammer40k #midhammer #tabletop #wargaming

In the early rounds, the Necrons Warriors suffer casualties as they advance. The concentrated shots of the Imperial Stormtroopers whittle down the troops of living metal, while they manage to make use of cover to protect themselves from retaliatory shots.

The Necron Destroyers are easily taken down in a single round of shooting.

Just because you have mobility and assault weapons, it doesn't mean you should swoop into melta range, I suppose.

The beginning of the end for the defenders of the Imperium, as the Necron Lord leads a charge to engage the humans in deadly melee.

A unit after another, the Necron Lord cuts down the enemy until the Imperial commander is felled by its bladed staff. The Necrons break through.

Main reason behind choosing 10mm as opposed to the more common 28mm scale being the ease of assembling armies and painting them up.

Contemplating getting into 10mm miniatures for classical/fantasy wargame (thinking Kings of War).
