7am, a while pre-dawn...

Wife pings me to remind me that it's Recycling Day (our first at this place). Asks if I need to move the bin to the end of the alley driveway, put stuff out.

Yup, I had a reminder (yesterday) in my phone that it's Recycle Day, but not an ALARM for this morning in the dark hours to get the bin out there.

Get out there, and almost nothing's been put in the bin. So I move a bin-ful of cardboard into the bin, and move it to the edge of the alley. Then put two more boxes full of other boxes behind it, just in case the guys are gracious and willing to take some overload cardboard off our hands (we have enough cardboard to do that for 3 more pickups, i.e. 6 more weeks... and there's more coming).

Being out in the driveway under the CFL flood light that barely does jack shit in cool morning weather has me kicking myself that I haven't replaced it yet.

Go get the ladder. Go get the LED flood that I've had for this for almost 2 weeks. Climb up. Look up only long enough to get my hand on the bulb, then look down. I don't want stuff falling in my eyes.

Get the bulb out, and put it in the hole in the top of the ladder that I believe is designed expressly for this purpose.

Behind it, dark background of cavernous messy garage with cardboard boxes full of other broken-down cardboard boxes. It is a garage in which I cannot yet park my vehicle, as we've only moved in two weeks ago, and the garage is still FULL of shit we've yet to sort and find a proper place for. It is the collection eddy for lowest-priority flotsam. It is the bane of my current existence.

Anyway, in the hole in the top of the ladder is a Compact Fluorescent Outdoor Flood Light, around the base of which is a paper wasp nursery comb. Vacant, thankfully.

As many of you are aware, ve been navigating one of the most challenging periods of my day while waiting for dinner.
Facing baseless federal hunger brought on by not eating since lunch, fighting for the working kids of this country, and now caring for a mean toddler and helping him grow up in a world that isn't always easy. But it has also reminded me exactly why I do this work and who I do it for.
I will never stop working to eat dinner. I will never stop fighting for what is right, even when there is also some feta in the fridge. And I will never stop being so very thankful that you are by my side in this important work and that there is tahini in the pantry for dressing
