Reuters got some of the IPO docs. Anthropic is a total dog of a company. Spent $12.6bn to make $4.6bn in revenue in 2025, $7.33bn of which was compute costs. Operating loss of $8bn. Losses getting worse year over year. Amazing stuff www.reuters.com/business/fin...
Summary
Companies
• Anthropic IPO could value the company at more than $2
trillion
• Anthropic lost $42 billion in 2025
• Al lab spent $7.33 billion on compute and infrastructure last year
• Operating loss widened to $8.06 billion in 2025 from $2.98 billion in 2024
• Execs, industry analysts have expressed concerns over harms of Al tech
Sept 28 (Reuters) - Anthropic is making a massive bet that Al will transform the global economy more profoundly than industrialization, electricity and the internet, according to its IPO prospectus seen by Reuters.
But the cost to get there will be staggering. Anthropic reported a net loss of $42 billion in 2025, and plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing and infrastructure obligations in coming year, according to the
prospectus.

Soooooooo. As expected, the guy in that story about Muse doing FB Marketplace deals *had* in fact clicked the permission to "always allow" Muse to do things for him. Still very, very poor design by Meta such that the user didn't understand what permission he was giving...

Update on letting Muse run Facebook Marketplace for me.
So I’ve spoken to
@davidsingleton
and the Muse team tonight and we went through the log to figure out what went wrong. Regarding the address leak. The first thing that popped up from Muse when asking it to handle my Facebook marketplace was an option with ‘Allow One Time’ or ‘Allow Always’. I clicked the latter thinking it would still send approvals to accept offers later down the line (it didn’t so be careful).

matt.j.robb

By doing that it granted Muse permission to send messages on my behalf going forwards using a template it put together using information it asked from me. Which also included the pickup address that I did give to Muse (again I didn’t think it would send it out to everyone that gave me an offer so it’s worth checking). I mentioned to the meta team it could be easily overlooked as it was with me and they said they will be making this more clear moving forwards.

Regarding the lowball offer situation. It accepted an offer of $600 and sent out my address to a buyer to come collect the item after I strictly set a minimum of $700 with Muse. The Meta team informed me this was an error on their end which caused a display issue removing the ‘7’ from the output to the buyer. And with it stating “Sounds good, 00 it is!” after the buyer asked for $600 it made it look to the buyer like his offer was accepted.

I suggested to Meta that each message sent by Muse should have a little “Sent By Muse” badge underneath so everyone knows it wasn’t sent by a human as there was really no way of knowing who sent what in the chat which is very concerning.
As for the buyer, we made up and he even came by tonight to buy something else. All ended well.

‘Dear sir/madam, to whom it may concern, we hacked one of your websites.’ Hilarious that OpenAI just sent an email to the public inbox of Services Australia, (and nearly two months after the hack)
Timeline: OpenAl agent hacks
Australian government website
Here is what we know of the timeline how things panned out:
• 18 June - OpenAl's agent accessed both public and non-public information on an Australian website
• August (precise date unknown) - OpenAl said it became aware of a potential breach during a broader review of "misaligned model activity"
• 10 September - An email from OpenAl lands in the public inbox of Services Australia, the general services hub of the federal government, informing of the incident

Oh. That's a heck of a subsidy.
At MIT, Harvard, or any other school, supervising an undergraduate researcher is a lot of work, costs a lot of money, involves a lot of meetings, and the results are not reliably excellent. Asking Claude is easier, faster, and may produce better results. It’s also cheaper, which is no accident: Harvard allows every Harvard student and faculty member to request a Claude token budget of $2,500 per month, even as research funding is continuously threatened and the University lays off staff.

It turns out that my new favourite genre is mathematicians writing about AI
In recent months, the success of Al in solving major mathematical problems has made headlines even outside mathematical circles.
But solving problems is only a tool and proxy for achieving the primary goal of conceptual understanding and insight. Forgetting this in the world of Al may turn the tool against the primary goal. Indeed, the mass production at faster and faster pace of "true/false" statements could destroy fertile ground instead of breathing life into new ideas.

Oil use displaced by EVs in China in H1 2026 exceeded the UK’s total oil use over a six-month period. The effect of EVs on oil use was almost twice as large as would be expected based on the increase in the number of EVs on the road alone, as the usage of existing EVs surged.
