From WIP 1 - These Words Remain Unsaid 🧨 they will butt heads a lot... #WIPSnips #QueerWriters #WritingPrompts #ATWRU #SapphicWriters #sapphicauthors #WriteSky #Sapphic
Then there was the lead singer, Ashley. The first thing that struck Julie was her voice. It was full of passion and strength, existing somewhere between a lullaby and a growl.
The second was her attitude: strong-willed, recalcitrant, and every bit as bold as her red-and-black hair suggested.
Julie liked her instantly, even as she mentally catalogued all the ways they were going to butt heads.
Firecracker, indeed.

My current wordcount goal is 200 words a day, which before would have felt like nothing, but I think it might be helping me build consistency. Yesterday I wrote 700 words, today 230. I didn't feel like writing today, but just told myself, "All I have to do is write 200 words." #Writing #WriteSky

#WIPSnips Since Im back on drafting DeadmanWIP (a Mudlarks novella) here’s one of the few sighs. Charlie teases Jack as they ‘pound the pavement’ on the case. (Also, I challenge any editor that tells me that sighing isn’t a dialogue tag to a physical fight. But I warn you, Im a brown-belt.😠)
As promised, Jack received messages shortly after lunch, as Charlie was noisily fussing with and adjusting the height of a rolling chair someone had delivered at a small adjustable desk that had been brought with it. It was barely enough to hold the weight of her laptop, but she seemed in good spirits.
“How do you want to do this? Split it up by day so we can go through it faster, or two sets of eyes?” He asked her.
“Hm? Oh, I’m sure you’ll tell me if you find anything…” she sighed breezily. Did she expect him to sort through hours of footage on his own? What did she plan to do? She caught his look and paused, then one of her smirks crept onto her face and she winked.
“I’ll take first watch. Friday night. You take Saturday and we’ll split last night down the middle.”
It was a fair compromise and soon they were sitting quietly in their respective corners, both glaring fixedly at their screens as the previous weekend played out at triple-speed before their eyes.
“So you’re a priest, then?”
“Hm? Yes,” Jack answered, slowing the footage down to try to track the shadows of headlights across the windows on unit sixteen. What had Ms. Taylor seen? He didn’t

September 6th – sigh Nik is training mage killers. Or she’s trying to, anyway. They have a ways to go. #DawnsBlood #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
Nik closed her eyes and leaned her head back, enjoying the cool breeze on her skin and the sun on her face. In the stillness, she heard the crunch of leaves behind her and the scrape of a boot across the grass.
Eyes still closed, the air crackled with electricity, and then she heard 5 bodies hit the ground.
Nik opened her eyes with a sigh. “You are going to have to do better than that.” She looked down at the soldiers arrayed around her, groaning and trying to regain their feet. “I told you, it isn’t enough just to wait until I seem distracted. You need to actively draw my attention away from the attack. Distract, then look for an opening. Get yourselves together and try it again.”
Nik turned away from them, giving them time to recover. “And you,” She shook her head at J’ossu standing in startled stillness behind her, “probably shouldn’t sneak up on me during training. You are lucky I was only targeting those five.”
J’ossu raised an eyebrow. “I didn’t actually expect to find you out here this morning.”
	“Why not?”

#WIPSnips Mitali's POV, if you couldn't tell. #Writing #AmWriting #WriteSky
Gerry sighed, motioned me towards the entrance of the little blacksmith building.

He didn’t dare let me touch any of the blades, not my inexperienced city hands. I hated that that’s what they settled on. City kid. As if it was that simple. You grow up in the countryside or the city, and suddenly everything’s a completely different mindset. And they acted like I was somehow completely inexperienced at everything that they thought was simple because of that. That I was sheltered from their clearly right customs.

I don’t know how they didn’t understand that I didn’t grow up in just some regular city, with pretty apartment buildings, glowing lights, and funky shops.

If anything, they were the ones sheltered. They got to grow up in this nice, beautiful, green village while the city — my city — was rained on with bombs and bullets.

I paused, trying to recollect myself, because there it was again. I felt spiteful. Angry. That all these people got to live some fantasy, cute-sy life in a wonderful little forest, while… while…

And then I looked down at the floor, ashamed.

Why, of all, things did I have to feel this way? It was such a stupid, unfair way to feel. I was being unfair. None of this was their fault, and I shouldn’t feel jealous.

A small snippet from my characters at one of their highest points in the book. Not going to be sharing a lot of snippets until I'm done with draft one, but here's one for today. #SundaySnips #Writing #AmWriting #WriteSky
I ran towards the trees, wondering how many lay in this forest alone. It didn’t take long for Mitali to catch up to me at all, bumping into me and laughing.

We both collapsed onto the floor. I turned to face him. Despite everything that happened, that’s still happening, he had the brightest smile I’d ever seen. And I let myself smile too. Not one of those fake, carefully articulated smiles I made so often.

I knew that we were probably getting dirt all over our clothes. I could already feel the fallen leaves sticking to my sweater and hair. But I didn’t care. I would stay in this forest with him forever if I could.

I’d run deeper and deeper into the unknown greenery if it meant this night would never end. Everything made sense here. It all felt right. Peaceful and perfect.

#Sustember Day 5 - Share a snippet From WIP 3 - The First Lesbian Book Club. The "book club" realizes they need a new member and Liv has a suggestion. #WritingPrompts #WritingQs
“I have just the woman,” Liv announced proudly. “She likes mysteries. And we need someone who writes mysteries because of påskekrim.”
Lucy nodded solemnly. “All right. Krim I understand, but what is paw-ska?”
“It is when the bunnies make babies and we go to church and eat the chocolate bunnies.”
“Easter?” Clara ventured. “You read crime novels at Easter?”
“Ja.” Liv nodded. “Krim is very popular rundt påske.” Her accent thickened slightly as her confidence faltered.
“I think that’s fascinating,” Lucy said warmly. “And a mystery writer would fill a gap in our collective style.”
Liv brightened instantly.

Hello friends! I'm back! Or at least, I'm going to try to be: I am finally writing again after a long hiatus, just being far too busy. In good news though, draft 3 is now over 78,000 words, and nearly into the third act! #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WIPsnips
After a whole day on the water, stopping only to eat, she stopped by simply grounding the Skiff against the low shore. Too tired to set up a full camp, she hauled the little boat as high up the shore as she could so it wouldn't drift away if the tide rose, then collapsed under the welcome arms of a tree, her dead man's cloak spread beneath her for a groundsheet

Hi! I'm popping in to say that I'm still here. Writing has still very much been on a hiatus, partly because of writer's block and partly because it's hard to balance with work. But I'm still working on my book, even if today is the first day I've written anything in over a month haha. #Writing

I'm tired of the constant flip-flop of my thoughts when writing either being, "This is terrible, are you sure you can even write a book?" or, "Wow, that line or paragraph was actually really good, I'm kind of obsessed with it." Was writing your first draft (ever) this hard too? #writing

518 words for today's writing session. I've set myself a new daily wordcount goal of 300 words per day, after not writing for a month, and I think it's definitely helping. Before, I thought I had to get 1000+ words a day, and that definitely demotivated me from even starting to write...

Cover the novel The Gerzean Blade by Scarlet Mitchell. A large stone knife stands upright in the middle of a road like a monolith.
On the left side, beside a grassy plain light by daytime sun stands a dark-haired woman in a leather jacket. She leans against a blue car and hold a map in her hand. She gazes pensively toward the right side where a stormy dusk is falling over the sparkling St. Louis skyline in the distance.

MORNING BLUESKY! My book THE GODS OF ATALANTIS #1 is out on digital today!!! 🥳🥳🥳 2 teenagers get chosen as the new gods & must learn to work together as they face scheming leaders, fanatical cults & a prophecy of doom for their island! ❤️‍🔥 Slow-burn romance! 💎 Magic crystals! 🌏 Deep worldbuilding!
Cover of THE GODS OF ATALANTIS, designed by me. The bottom half shows a girl with long flowing hair sleeping in a fetal position, wrapped up in flowing cloths; she is painted in shades of light to dark blue, and her flowing hair and cloths are reminiscent of ocean waves. At the top, upside down, a boy with curly hair and a tattoo on his arm is also sleeping in a fetal position, wrapped up in cloths; he is painted in golds and reds, like the sun. The two of them mirror each other almost like yin & yang, with the title written between them in shining reddish-gold letters. A reddish-gold border frames the cover, and each corner features a small symbol: a marigold flower, a phoenix, an orange & blue striped fish, and a wolf. Along the left and right sides of the border, pale bluish-white crystals are growing. Along the bottom the author's name EMILY KLOTZ is written in the same reddish-gold letters.

Nothing is keeping us apart. The distant echo faded away in Song's mind to some dark place where it would always echo, in his every dream, wherever he was, in his every hope, and even in his fears. Nothing is keeping us apart. That was the one thing that would always matter.

*Heart of Our Forest* is a slice-of-life fantasy set in a rustic, green village with a focus on friendship, family, and resilience through community. It also happens to be my passion project and the reason I got into writing books. 🌲🌱🌻 #HopePit #W #F #Writing
An artwork, drawn by me, of the MCs of Heart of Our Forest: Sam and Mitali. They are sharing a peaceful moment in the forest as the sun sets. Sam is leaning her head on Mitali's shoulder. They are both covered in a bit of dirt from the forest, and wearing leaf crowns. A moodboard featuring nine photos in a 3x3 grid shape. From left to right, top to bottom:

1. A shot from the back of a person wrapping their arm around another person. They’re both leaning on each other, while sitting down. They appear to be next to a river or pond and sitting on grass.
2. Hands holding up a flower crown.
3. A close-up of an elf-like, long pointy ear. Colorized to be almost black and white.
4. A hand holding up dirt with what appears to be parts of a plant. Below it a patch of dirt with more green plant parts can be seen.
5. A wooden sign, pointing to the right, with big letters that say, “HOPE.”
6. A hand being stuck in water. The water seems to have dirt and some debris in it. I interpret it as a river.
7. A rustic village with a winding road, lots of trees and greenery, and a cluster of houses visible on the left.
8. Two hands hovering above a green plant.
9. An assortment of five chickens sitting on a wooden fence. Greenery can be seen in the background.

(Images from Pinterest)Short Pitch:

Mitali isn’t so sure he believes in hope anymore. The war that took away his parents and home also took away any hope for the future. When his older brother reveals he found a place for them in Greenfield — a small, rustic village on the outskirts of the country, and what he claims to be a chance at a real home — Mitali still doesn’t believe it will last.

Sam feels like her very existence is a mistake that needs to be hidden and masked until she looks as normal as possible. She doesn’t know who she wants to be or who she even is, behind the lie of a normal human. The only hopes she has is to be someone else.

The two form an unlikely friendship, and, despite both being very closed off, find a way to relate to each other’s struggles, however different they might be. Together they find out that there may be more hope in this little forest village than they initially thought — especially if they have each other. Blurred image of daisy flowers with text on top of it:

Project.Greenfield Playlist:

1. Favorite Place (Humbear)
2. Somewhere Only We Know (Keane)
3. Sunflower (Amber Run)
4. Always Home (Leucadia)
5. Woodland (The Paper Kites)

Text: "spice level: handholding (barely), neurodivergent MC's, a magical mountain, overcoming grief, sapphic romance, a bear-shifter, hermit-vibes deep in the forest, nose-booping, old dying gods.

I haven't written in DAYS despite having a deadline, that I publicly posted about, that's two weeks away, how's your day going? Anyway, that's why I dropped doing all the monthly prompts, I have to get 10 chapters done in two weeks, and I have not much time. I'll go write now (hopefullly).

Shortcuts? No shortcuts in the way of magic, as Hal says! It takes time and dedication! No idea why there's a huge gap here between lines, I think it's a common problem with Ellipsus. #WIPsnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity
“To learn magic, you must learn to read magic. Knowing the words and gestures will get you so far only. The arcane symbols which comprise the Arcane are more complicated by far than any other language I will teach you. You need a strong understanding of how languages work, how they live and evolve, before anything of Magic will make sense to you. There is no shortcut, no quick and easy path, I’m afraid. Learning magic takes time, and study.”
“How long?”
Hal considered. “If you are lucky? You will be casting spells within a year.”

#FantasyIndiesApril // Day Three 🧵1/2 You know, I tried to sit down and barnstorm title ideas, based on things like the location, vibes, character names... but nothing worked for me. Then, though I'm still not decided yet (I haven't even finished draft one!), what seemed to be a perfect title...

#AprilAdventure 🧵1/2 The protagonist(s) of Greenfield are Sam and Mitali, who we meet as two struggling teenagers. Before the crux of the story gets going, the two are fairly closed-off, both worrying about very different things.

#AprilWorldbuilders The village of Greenfield is built around a winding river, little houses scattered across both sides, with a bridge connecting the two sides. The river also serves as a source of food — fish! Unfortunately, the river doesn't have a name yet.

From WIP 3 - The First Lesbian Book Club How do you break books?! #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts 🌈✒️ #lesfic #sapphic #QueerWriters #sapphicauthors #sapphicwriters
Two customers entered, and Lucy slipped at once into brisk professionalism. Beverly watched the transformation—cheerful, efficient, composed—and found it oddly unsettling how quickly Lucy could mask herself.
She focussed on the precision of cutting pages, the organization of each chapter, and then opened the glue.
“What are you doing?” It was a man’s voice from beside her. He was standing too close for comfort.
“I’m fixing books,” Beverly said coolly.
“Oh,” he said. “Why?”
“Because they’re broken.”
“How do you break a book?”
The same way I’ll break your arm if you don’t leave me alone.
