#Sniptober day 4! Blair screwed up her face for a moment. “No. I don’t want to die. I’m prepared to die. I’m a hunter. That’s always a possibility. And you’re greater than any opponent I’ve ever fought. I’m prepared to die. But-” She faltered. The countess raised an eyebrow. “But?”

Blair considered lying. But she found the words slipping out anyway. “I’m prepared to die. I’m not prepared to see Nadia die.”
The countess laughed, her voice echoing off the walls. “Oh dear. You’re smitten. And here I thought to seduce you myself. And instead, I’ve had you seduced by proxy. What are we to do?”
Blair didn’t answer. And the two walked on. After a prolonged silence, Blair spoke.
“Aren’t you going to try and break me, tonight?”
“I have never been trying to break you,” the countess said. “I have been trying to trap you. And so I have. I did so without realizing. But you stand here, trapped. You belong to Nadia. And Nadia belongs to me. You are already mine. Now, I can afford to take my time.”
Blair scowled. “I don’t think Nadia belongs to you.”

#AwesomeCharacters Rider prefers to live alone as a wanderer, but has only gotten that for part of year, twice. Now he lives with a feather-dragon,(Furgo) & a child,(Song) in the wilderness. They try to find winter shelter in caves. They all cuddle together when it's cold. - 1/2

#AwesomeCharacters Lawcket lives with his family, in a very tiny house compared to most modern houses. Mom, Dad & kids all sleep in one bed. No one has their own space. When Lawcket gets older, he starts sleeping outside with Looccup more. He's mostly happy with his living circumstances, -1/2

#FantasyIndiesSpooktober (I love this question) I define the purest bravery as doing the right thing even when others will judge you for it. But facing what you're afraid of to help others is also a very meaningful kind of bravery. Lawcket feels more with the second. Rider has a sense of - 1/3

#OctoberThrills day 4 Lawcket will freeze or fight, but he discovers quickly that he hates inflicting harm even in self-defense. Rider does NOT freeze (unless he can still hide, or he's trying to make himself look afraid) He will either fight on flee depending on his goals.

#FaveLineFriday I've been doing tons of editing, but chose from the one scene I actually wrote. I couldn't pick, so hear's my favorite part. WARNING: may contain vague spoilers. His hair wiped back from his face with a touch as gentle as the wind, those cool fingers, that scarred hand, - 1/2

“I’ll always love you.” Those words proven in a thousand ways.
He saw Rider’s outline against that bright purple light, the last way he’d proven those words.
Rider dressed in servant’s whites, kneeling on the floor of a room in this very palace.
Rider watching him eat what Rider had hunted and cooked, refusing to east himself.
Feeling Rider’s bones even through his jacked, his face pressed into that jacket, the smell of wet leather enveloping his senses.
His hair wiped back from his face with a touch as gentle as the wind, those cool fingers, that scarred hand, those deep brown eyes searching him, gentle, sad, infinitely caring.

#AwesomeCharacters Lawcket actually laughing is extremely rare. A giggle or chuckle is easier to get, but still not common. Giggle means he feels teased in a pleasant way. Chuckle means he finds something a little amusing. Circumstances can be sad, but the thing should have something happy - 1/2

#AwesomeCharacters A laugh from Rider is usually bitter, at best making light of harsh circumstances. There are a few places with Song where he laugh just out of something being silly, so maybe he's learning healthier laughing. How often depends on circumstances and mood.

#WIPSnips No choices for today. Only 1 instance in spite of this story being high on injury for how low action it is. He ran his hand down Lawcket's leg, gently pressing in different ways, trying to feel out the injury. “I told you– a dragon bite me,” Lawcket said. He gasped suddenly.

To Lawcket he said, “This might hurt, but I want to know how and where you're hurt.”
“I don't understand. What will hurt? The only bad hurt– I think, is my leg.”
“Yes, but I want to know where and how,” Aisferk said.
He ran his hand down Lawcket's leg, gently pressing in different ways, trying to feel out the injury.
“I told you– a dragon bite me,” Lawcket said.
He gasped suddenly.
“Did that really hurt?” Aisferk asked, his voice breathed with attentive concern.
Lawcket's leg was beginning to shake.
“I– yes. Why are you doing it, Dad?”
Aisferk put his hand on Lawcket's thigh.
“I won't anymore,” he said, “but I might have to do something that will hurt more. Can you handle that? I'm sorry I didn't listen to you earlier. I'm just trying to take care of you now, I promise.”
“I think so. I'll try my hardest,” said Lawcket, his voice a little shaky.

#fantasy #WritingCommunity #WriteSky #WIPSnips #injury -> injured Drisal’s having an awesome time being an army medic. Cerel finds Drisal in his tent after a long shift. - Brother’s Keeper, my fantasy WIP about two brothers bound by a misunderstood power

and scavenged linens than a pallet. Cerel swallowed back his pain, and shook off the feeling that he was intruding. "Why?" he demanded.

Drisal did not look up.

"Why?" Cerel demanded again. As his eyes adjusted, details came into focus. Rush was so still. Like a dead thing, the only sign of life his faint but labored breathing. His head rested on one upflung arm; his half-lidded, colorless eyes stared at nothing.
Absolute fatigue had carved Drisal's face into a mask of sharp shadows and deep caverns. He smelled of festering wounds and the blood of the INJURED, which
had stiffened in his hair and ripened upon him as if he had not washed in days, a dying thing himself.

Cerel's anger welled up, staving off his emotions and saving him again. "Because it's your duty? Because you owe them?"

Rider more often than not doesn't have a breakfast. When he does, it's cold leftovers from yesterday's cooking, perhaps meat left on bones, or possibly cold broth from a stew. Lawcket's breakfast can be anything from a cup of goat milk, to vegetable soup, usually with corn, &/or roots.

Fantasy is often associate with action adventures, magical weapons, etc, & doesn't tend to allow for deep introspection, prioritizing plot and pace, which are often nearly forgotten in my writing.

“Well, that answers that,” she sighed. “You’re definitely you. That was exactly how Mick Martin would react to this.”

“W-what?” Mick squeaked. “What’s going on?”

Eleanor hesitated, and Mick decided he didn’t like the look she was giving him.

“Ah, well . . .” She eased herself onto her knees before him. “It’s-it’s difficult to say. What do you remember?”

He looked at her. Even if he could think straight, he couldn’t answer that question. But as it stood, he could barely cling to words, let alone put them in an order that made sense.

“Right, right.” She rubbed her lips with her fingertips in thought. “Well. To recap, there was a troll, and then there was fire, and then you . . . turned into this. It all happened too quickly for me to grasp what was going on, but when you scooped me up and blasted your way out of the cavern with that fireball—”

He did what?

“—I knew some part of you was still in there,” Eleanor continued. “Ah. And . . . you might have attacked the Queen’s Guard.”
