The “literacies“ framework is as intellectually bankrupt as polarization right now. We will keep using it because when you’ve got one hammer and the NSF social science funding has dried up everything looks like a nostalgic managerial class nail.

EXACTLY this. They KNOW what they’re doing. In fact, it is the point. They’re not “dehumanizing” their victim—they recognize her agency and choose to destroy it, and that is exactly what excites them.

This is a tough read. Having taught at various U.S. universities, I have been amazed by the fact that sexual assault is endemic and most of the little debate has been focused on protecting men from false accusations (which rarely happens) — himpathy, as @katemanne.bsky.social coined.

One of these students was my own advisee, and having supported her throughout the the months-long case, I can state with confidence that she did nothing wrong. Moreover, she happens to be deaf and was suspended in part for being “unreasonably loud.” Privacy consideration

Grinnell has a required writing class for first-year students. As part of the class, we have to teach about academic honesty and avoiding plagiarism. Easy enough, I thought, until I got the first student question: "Why does Grinnell seem to take this so much more seriously than it does Title IX?"
