i’ve said this before but lemme say it again. it makes absolutely 0 sense to talk about “misuse” of llms because there is no clear use or purpose for llms to begin with. genAI is a purposeless tech floating around looking for uptake 1/

Zohran Mamdani caught lying that he understood Plato’s allegory of the cave, yet when asked to explain it, he seemed to instead explain Baudrillard’s theory of Simulacra and Simulation where reality has been replaced by symbols and signs, which seems similar to Plato’s theory but is not the same

If you need to explain to an idiot why Tolkien would have despised these goons, I have already grabbed a picture of the relevant passage (and I doubt I was the first):
An image of a passage from the Return of the King, in which Robin the Hobbit Shirriff explains that 'the Chief' (Saruman) has coopted the shirriffs and uses them to lock up or beat people who protest is tyranny - and he always wants more shirriffs, "with all these new rules."

1. We ( @jbakcoleman.bsky.social, @cailinmeister.bsky.social, @jevinwest.bsky.social, and I) have a new preprint up on the arXiv. There we explore how social media companies and other online information technology firms are able to manipulate scientific research about the effects of their products.
Three schematic diagrams. The first illustrates selective publishing of internal resection, the second selective causal focus, and the third selective access and funding for researchers.

This drops while they announce even more layoffs for the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). F5 is used a lot more than you think, but more importantly it shows a continuing trend of "catastrophic" breaches happening not only more frequently, but going unnoticed.

“AI” isn’t a tool or technology or even a cluster of technologies with a misleading name. It’s the infrastructure at the foundation of a form of capitalism dependent on data brokering. We should be teaching our students about this and not teaching them about “responsible” use.

The idea that the “best CISOs aren’t technical” is hurting us. Spend time with engineers. Sit in code reviews. Watch how auth really breaks. Credibility comes from bridging worlds, not hiding behind meetings. And trust me, engineers understand the business more than the suits like to admit.

If you've been in leadership meetings about technology like this, then you know. The real alarm bell: people at his level only talk like this after the proof of concept is done and the core infrastructure is locked in. This isn’t speculation or "prediction", it’s a signal that deployment is ready.

We def need a bigger study of this. The dark horse here won't just be the brogrammer claims, but real risks to software supply chain security, new adversarial AI attacks, and the downstream effects of technical debt on teams being told they need to do more with less actual humans in the loop.
