I am in Cap Haitien interviewing people deported from the United States. I have been doing this kind of work for almost a decade and it literally does not get more dire than this. People have lost everything they built in the U.S. and are terrified and have no place to go or way to live.

Painted in 1887, 'A Flower Meadow at Veierland,' is one of Edvard Munch's final paintings before his style was influenced by Hans Jæger, an anarchist and bohemian in Kristiania who convinced him artists should take a new approach in their work and have relevance in peoples' lives

The Guerreros de La Villita sculpture was rescued in 1966–1967 from El Pochote, Guerrero, Mexico before a dam flooded the site. Dating to 1300–1500 CE, these ceramic warriors reflect a volatile border zone fiercely contested between the Aztec and Purépecha empires.

Happy Carrington Event Day to all who celebrate. On Sept 2-3, 1859, a huge solar flare hit Earth with the most intense magnetic storm on record. Auroras bloomed, magnetometers went wild, and telegraph machines sparked around the world. 🧪 link.springer.com/article/10.1...
Carrington’s (1859) carefully executed drawing of his sunspot group 520 on 1 September 1859, the first visual record of a solar flare. The initial (A and B) and final (C and D) positions of the white-light emission are indicated. Solar east is to the right. Below: Enlargement of region 520 from an early solar photograph made at Kew Observatory by Warren De la Rue on 31 August 1859.

Can we all please take a moment to admire the Egyptian priest Pa-nehem-isis, who died approximately 2,200 years ago and is seeing out eternity in an Austrian art museum, but nonetheless looks surprisingly chilled about the matter?
The Sarcophagus of the priest Pa-nehem-isis. It is stood vertically and displayed in two pieces, showing both the top and bottom, and both pieces are intricately carved all over in hieroglyphics. The face is huge and bears a remarkably relaxed expression: not quite smiling, but very calming.
