The Arctic is warming four times faster than the rest of the world, causing the frozen ground to thaw at a record rate.

I've heard that ravens sometimes help wolves looking for moose, well I can confirm that this Bald Eagle was no help to me in my search. Just sat and watched. I guess they just want dead salmon this time of year. Anchorage #Alaska #BirdsSeenIn2026 🪶

Switzerland’s iconic glaciers lost an enormous amount of ice in 2026, a new report shows, signaling an ongoing rapid meltdown driven by climate change that has astonished scientists. About 20 percent of glacial ice in Switzerland has vanished since 2021.

Switzerland’s glaciers are losing an astonishing amount of ice. See the meltdown.
Dry winters and a warming climate are taking a toll on centuries-old ice in the Alps, researchers say, with about 20 percent of Swiss glacial ice melting since 2021.

Was supporting a conference at #Sarawak & nipped out to see cave swiftlets. This was a bonus: Amorphophallus brachyphyllus - a foul-smelling carrion plant. Rare, tuberous geophyte, native to limestone in #Borneo Flower produces a smell of fried fish to attract carrion beetles & flies.

This is the leaderboard from the 41st to 144th places now. Compared to previous years, we are a bit further in term of species count, so don't hesitate to contribute to your country's 2026 bird list if you see it there! Still there was plenty of beautiful pictures sent to us this week again!!

In the #BirdsSeenIn2026 challenge, we've real fights at two leaderboard levels: Malaysia is still first, but Australia just reached its 500th species this week and the USA are 4 species shy of this mark! Another is Wales and Canada switching position at the 10th spot for the 3rd consecutive week!!

Plume-toed Swiftlet (Collocalia affinis). Can be differentiate from Mossy-nest Swiftlets by undertail coverts - blackish with white fringing. They do not echolocate so I was surprised to find them deep in the cave. #BirdsSeenIn2026 #Sarawak #Malaysia @birdsoftheworld.bsky.social

I remember when polio put my friends into iron lungs. We lined up at school to get vaccinated. We eradicated the disease. We protected the common good and saved lives. Now, two MORE unvaccinated people have died from measles. What RFK Jr. is doing to public health in America is a disgrace.

Bird Tracks (Avian Ichnology) Another approach to assess habitat range of birds. Ansiodactyl feet - common - 3 toes front, one toe back. Zygodactyl feet - have 2 toes front, 2 toes back (woodpeckers, owls). Pamprodactyl feet – all 4 toes pointing forward (swifts). Fossilized tracks also useful.
