The levels of clownery going on here are honestly unmatched
Galloway framed his candidacy as a direct challenge to Polanski. Speaking on his talk show Galloway cited Polanki's support for Ukraine an his position on trans rights among the reasons h would oppose him. Later in the show, Galloway said he supports Russia's war on Ukraine as par of "a wider anti-imperialist, anti-colonialist framework"
Galloway is living in what he has described as
"self-imposed exile" in Russia, after he and his wife Putri Gayatri Pertiwi were questioned by counter-terror police at Gatwick airport in September. The former MP has pledged to take legal action against the Met police over the incident.

I knew today was going to be big. I didn’t know we’d have so many volunteers that we’d leaflet the ENTIRE constituency in just two hours (!!) - 80,000 leaflets. And we got to speak to so many people on their doorsteps. This is how we win this campaign. Thank you, everyone. 🙏🏽

Greens need to fight this HARD. It's a really tough moment for us with the Burnham bounce, if he had waited until next year things would be much easier, but we have to throw our all at this.

✍️ Some words on my return to Parliament this week, including a huge thanks to all my constituents for their understanding and compassion while I've been working on my recovery from burnout. I've been blown away by your kindness 🫶 Looking forward to getting back into things. Onwards and upwards 💚
Zack Polanski and Carla Denyer huggingZack Polanski and Carla Denyer up Cabot Tower in Bristol, looking at the viewI want to say a huge thank you to all my constituents for their understanding and compassion while I have been working on my recovery from burnout. Thank you especially to those who sent me supportive messages during my time away, sharing your own stories of burnout and recovery, and words of advice. I have been blown away by your kindness. 🫶

I recognise that I have been enormously fortunate to have been able to take this time, and that many people faced with the same situation would not be so lucky. No one should be penalised for being too unwell to work, and no one should have to jeopardise recovery because of job insecurity. This is something I am determined to change.

As anyone who’s ever had serious health issues can tell you, recovery isn’t linear, but I am making good progress, so I will be heading back to Parliament this week on a phased return.I’m really looking forward to getting back into things and working alongside my amazing colleagues and inspiring constituents to make a positive impact together.
And so it was great timing that Zack visited Bristol again this weekend (appearing at Forwards Festival yesterday), and we were able to catch up over coffee this morning.

In a world where the UK government’s response to wildfires and droughts ravaging our communities is to temporarily ban disposable BBQs (whilst still considering expanding oil and gas production in the North Sea 🤯), the need for us Green politicians has never been clearer. There is much to do.

Onwards and upwards 💚

in re Ray Bradbury's "There Will Come Soft Rains" (which, in the original Martian Chronicles, occurs on today's date), I didn't realize the very first published version of the story, in Collier's magazine, was set in April 1985. (the current edition of Martian Chronicles now sets it in 2057).

Huh. I recall nt long ago a newly elected MP questioned the boozing in parliament & triggered a spectacular multi-week meltdown by the nation's most sensible Sensibles chin stroking & pontificating abt why the corridors of Westminster overflowing with booze ws nt only good bt virtually a natural law
“Participants described alcohol as being available throughout the working day, frequently provided for free, and often intertwined with career advancement.”

Twenty-four MPs, 58 Westminster staff and 108 constituency office personnel shared their experiences and views. One MP, describing how readily available alcohol was at Westminster, said: “Going to a meeting at noon and alcohol’s available. Of course, I’m not used to that in my old job.”

The free alcohol at events on the parliamentary estate, which organisations arrange to help them lobby MPs, emerged as a particular issue.

Another MP said: “Where else in a work environment would you go, unless it was the works Christmas do, and there was free alcohol there for you? It just wouldn’t happen in real life.”

A third said: “You can start drinking here from 12 o’clock onwards and go around and consume large amounts of alcohol, and it’s relatively freely available.”

In the last week of August 1976, during Britain's driest summer in over 200 years, he was made Minister for Drought (but nicknamed 'Minister for Rain'). Howell was charged by the Prime Minister with the task of persuading the nation to use less water, and was even ordered by No.10 to do a rain dance on behalf of the nation. Howell responded by inviting reporters to his home in Moseley in Birmingham, where he revealed he was doing his bit to help water rationing by sharing baths with his wife, Brenda. Days later, heavy rainfall caused widespread flooding, and he became known as "Minister for Floods". Then, during the harsh winter of 1978–1979 he was appointed Minister for Snow.

Endlessly fascinating how many in the Tories and Labour combine an obsessive preference for two-partyism and a hatred of the internal pluralism needed to have the big tents required for a two-party system. The cost of ideologically pure silos is external pluralism.
