We should be just as worried about the harm to native bees. "...studies have established that acetamiprid, a neonicotinoid with powerful neurotoxic effects, can poison bees, affecting their foraging capacity and memory. A 2024 study suggested flupyradifurone could be lethal to some honeybees."

My talk at @scbeurope.bsky.social Only 10-15% of the EU's cattle herd is needed to graze every biodiversity-rich field there is. Most cattle never set hoof on pasture. They're fed grain, packed onto fertilized monocultures. The solution isn't more grazing. It's fewer animals, better raised.

Unlike many of other butterflies, painted ladies cannot survive Swedish winters. They have to migrated here from farther south every year. The large migration this year may be linked to weather conditions in North Africa, such as high spring rainfall this year that boosted breeding success.
