The TL;DR version of this post is that I've been struggling mentally, emotionally, and physically, which is why I've been so absent on social media lately. But I'm using the first day of Pride Month as a fresh start, a chance to try again. Basically, I'm back, baybee. 1/3

With the start of Pride Month upon us, I wanted to give an update on where I’ve been and what’s been going on with me. People have noticed that I’m not as active on social media anymore, and there’s a lot of reasons for that.

The first is that I’m struggling along with everyone else with what’s going on in the US right now. As a trans man, it’s emotionally and mentally overwhelming to see all the horrible shit happening, much of which is aimed at taking away my rights and/or making my life more difficult. I’m also exhausted by all the discourse being used to divide us when we should be uniting, and I don’t have the spoons to deal with all of it. In short, social media has been triggering me and wearing me down, and it’s been hard to want to wade into that environment.

The second part of this is that last year was extremely traumatic for me. I was homeless for two months, and that was after losing friends because of the pettiness of people I trusted. When I moved to Minneapolis in September, I hoped I could leave all of that behind me, but the effects of it lingered and weighed down on my mental health. It was almost impossible to write, and I went through long periods of depression and anxiety that made editing for clients difficult as well. I’m also coming to terms with the fact that I’m physically disabled, which has been one of the hardest things I’ve had to do. There are days where the pain and fatigue are so bad that it’s hard to function, and I kept pushing through for the longest time, leading to burnout. Not to mention I had appendicitis and had to spend a month recovering.

I'm confused that many of the stories that I'm reviewing - involve girls and women who proactively see being helped and protected as insulting to their autonomy. And in some situations, that's true - like, you can "protect" someone in a way that is controlling - but this seems to be generalized?

So about ten years ago I found a small network of bots on Reddit dedicated to spreading hate. The thing about it is that these weren't even responding to political topics - they were just responding to random keywords with insults and hate. The same bots are now here. You should understand why. 🧵
