Vintage-style Gothic artwork featuring a woman in a long white nightgown fleeing past a gnarled, leafless tree under a dark, dramatic sky. White serif text centered at the top of the image reads: "Ask your doctor if running screaming into the savage night might be right for you." A small copyright watermark reading "©ephemera.com" is visible in the bottom right corner.

HAHAHA Nevermind. I'm burnt out of working on this subject. I'm wrapping it up by the end of October and taking an extended break. No clue if I'm coming back to it. I've done the work that I can and I'm moving on. Every time I try to pick it up, I feel parts of my energy dying. Nope. No more.

Doing a brave thing - acknowledging that the research project I’ve worked on casually for the past three years has been deeply unfocused, which has led to part of the burnout I’ve been experiencing this year.

My brother-in-law bought tickets for the Lucas Museum in October. And now I have tickets to see The Devils at the Vista later that evening. October if going to be an amazing month.

Macklemore has this extremely Seattle earnestness that is pure cringe to 90% of the rest of the country, but I knew it would see him through in the end. What is cringe but earnestness persevering

I am in a state of oscillation. Debating if I want to apply for the Carnegie-Whitney Grant to create a bibliography that focuses on the Fantasy of Manners genre or resting and working independently on this subject on my own time. Grant money is always good but the responsibility is something else.

Just got out of a screening of BUDDY. I was not prepared for this level of pop culture history within the film. Psychotic masterpiece.

Instead of lowering flags to half mast for Dolly, they should reinstate vaccine mandates. They should invest in public health. They should walk back discriminatory LGBTQ+ policies. They should stop banning books and fund libraries. That’s how you honour her legacy.

Caught an early access of Coyote v. Acme this afternoon. Ya’ll, it was soooo good. I mean, the preview panel at the 2025 SDCC only hinted how great this was but it’s even better than I had hoped. 💯worth the hype.

Today’s library team discussion was about those feral cultish house cat books. One colleague mentioned the MEGA FAMILY TREE on the Warriors website. There has to be someone out there who has written some sort of doctoral thesis on this series. And we won't even get into the Wings of Fire connection.

“The effect of ChatGPT on educators’ lives is catastrophic. Whether you intended to do it or not, you’ve made every teacher’s life infinitely more difficult than it was two years ago. So, just let that settle in… If students are using it to compose, which is the biggest tragedy of all, they’ll never learn to write. And their voice is stolen from them. They’ll never have the ability to say their truth and tell their own story. And that’s silencing an entire generation or two.”

The more I sit with my viewing of Nolan's The Odyssey, the more I realize that this adaptation should be seen thru the lens of Bryan Doerries's The Theater of War, which focuses on how Bryan used two of Sophocles's plays as to create conversations on PTSD with Veterans. theaterofwar.com/projects

Whenever I see posts go viral that are like “support your library! Get a library card!” I appreciate the sentiment. But if you actually want to support your library, this is the kind of stuff that actually makes a difference. Go to board meetings. Tell the trustees. Stand up for library workers.

Started my annual reread of Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell and was once again struck with the idea that this book isn’t about magic but how information is controlled and manipulated amongst the elite while those who wish to use that same information for good are consistently denied.

Faculty: libraries and librarians need your advocacy BEFORE our collections are shuttered and our workers are fired. Whether you think your library is in trouble, and it almost definitely is, write to your provost and tell them how essential the library and library staff are to your work. Right now.
