People can have different political opinions about immigration policy. Political differences are fine, healthy for a democracy. But if you’re okay with this, that’s not a political opinion. That is a moral failing. 27/

If you’re worried that “protesters getting out of hand” will give the President a reason to implement martial law in an American city, what do you think is happening now? They’re kidnapping and murdering people and the cops are being sent in to arrest people for noise complaints?

Trans communities warned for years about the NYT's transphobia, but the specifics of how this was ordered were often shrouded behind corporate hierarchy. No more. Sweeney lays out specifically how the highest ranks of the NYT rigged coverage in favor of anti-trans bigots.
You've talked about the paper's treatment of the pretty infamous Cass report, especially from your spot at the international desk. What happened in that case?

It wasn't on my radar as much as it ought to have been. I was starting to wind down my time. I left the Times at the end of May of that year. There was an awareness that [Hilary] Cass was coming out with a report. The day before it officially came out, there was a lot of coverage in the BBC and UK media. Cass was already talking about it before its official release.

The day editor's counterparts are in Seoul and London. My counterpart in London — who was actually filling in that day, but did so on a regular basis — assigned a UK reporter to do a story.

That was standard practice, to be clear.

[Chuckling] There’s so many examples of how standard it was. She assigned it to a UK correspondent, who wrote it in the context of UK politics, talked about it being very contentious, talked about the criticisms of its findings. Cass was talking about them herself, this isn't jumping to any conclusions at that point. It really put it in the context of being this very contentious, very political sort of document.

When I saw it, because we're a few hours behind, there were 600, 700 words written. I had a pretty good sense of how the story was going to turn out. But within a few hours the story was to the top New York editors, and I don't know who exactly it was who did that. I assume it was Carolyn or her intermediary. They said ‘oh no, we want the science desk to do that,’ specifically that was Azeen [Ghorayshi], who had been a key reporter in a lot of the other anti-trans coverage. Some of what you just described, that's just outright bigotry from these reporters.

Yes, but the stories are also edited too. Somebody had to approve that lede. I don't know if it was Carolyn, who was known to be directly, hands-on involved in the line editing of stories. I don't know if she was or made known her preferences. Those stories had editors.

Certainly there are plenty of reporters that were fully on board with this, and others who do it out of ambition because this is what the bosses want and they want to get ahead so they insert what the bosses want.

You’re truly sick, all of this campaigning because you lost a race. Straight up sore loser. You should be uplifting the trans community and perhaps finding a way to make sports inclusive OR creating a new avenue where trans feel safe in sports. Maybe a transgender category IN ALL sports!!

But instead… You bully them…

One things for sure is no one in sports is safe with you around!!!!!

Cato has published my comprehensive review of the ~240 Venezuelans the US government renditioned 2 months ago to Salvador’s notorious prison. We identified FIFTY who came legally, never violated any immigration law, but are imprisoned at the US government’s request and at US taxpayer expense.

Absolutely unthinkable evil. Even if they WERE guilty of something.
From "The Hill": At least 50 migrants sent to El Salvador prison entered US legally, Cato Institute finds
BY REBECCA BEITSCH-05/19/25

"The government calls them all 'illegal aliens.' But of the 90 cases where the method of crossing is known, 50 men report that they came legally to the United States, with advanced US government permission, at an official border crossing point," Cato wrote in its report.

Repost comment by Joshua Reed Eakle @JoshEakle.
These people entered the US legally and ended up with a life sentence in a foreign concentration camp.
Unthinkable evil.

For every dollar of federal research funding in the United States, universities generate between $2.30 and $3.00 of economy activity, much of that in local communities. That doesn’t even include the return on investment of getting a college or graduate degree, which research also dollars support.

One of my party facts is that according to polls, Americans believe foreign aid is about 25% of the federal budget and on average that it *should* be about 10%. The actual number is less than 1%. Foreign aid has long been a boogey man of the right, so it's not surprising they're vilifying it now.

Subject: Interim Policy Changes Regarding Charging, Sentencing. And Immigration Enforcement Page 3 The Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) and the Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) program shall establish national initiatives to provide focused resources and attention to immigration-related prosecutions at the federal, state, and local levels.
