i think the analogy is really robust, honestly. not between LLMs and wheelchairs, but between the speakers. they're happy to admit that it's a statement about their own inability in both cases; it's simply not a gotcha to point that out. you have to be willing to say "yes, but you shouldn't have".

i know this is social media and it's impossible to take issue with an argument without sounding like you're arguing for its inverse, but... imma try. "i couldn't have done this without my wheelchair" is also a statement about the speaker more than the wheelchair. you have to bite some bullets here

i don't know you or what this is, but it sounds like the kind of thing i'd normally be into. but the conspicuous LLM-speak has drained me of any desire to click. i don't think this is rational, but it is a strong emotional response. just thought this might be a useful data point for the future.

i despise LLM companies as much as anybody, but suggesting that the tech requires a calculator tool to get usually-accurate arithmetic results is simply not in line with reality. i'd encourage you to play around with this yourself, it's easy and free!

you can run open-weight LLMs on your personal computer, and ensure that no calculator is involved. i did this personally just now. here it is with its reasoning outputs; it got this right on the first try (note that markdown formatting has butchered the reasoning a bit; the italics ate some *s).
