I helped a little bit with this, and while it's written for a settler audience it's still useful for Indigenous Peoples too. If there's interest maybe we can do a version that's more focused on Indigenous perspectives / rights / concerns etc. In the meantime I'll keep an eye out for other stuff

This is a message out there to all of you who, in trying to create a tribute to our children, choose to use AI.

When you feed these images into AI, you're feeding their data set. That means they will now use little pieces of Abel and Maya and the others the next time someone asks for the image of a 12 year old.

While most companies are trying their best, some of them aren't; a few weeks back, Grok was freely and cheerily offering up images of naked, underage children. This is horrifying.

I know that some people out there are trying to create clickbait images, but not you. You're trying to show your respect and love, but could we ask you do it in a different way? There are actual provided images of most of the victims out there; sharing those is equally as powerful and less dicey, morally. The RCMP even created a composite for you.

Something I hope happens more in the discourse about AI-enabled harms and violence is disrupting the notion that we need AI at all, or that using AI is inevitable. Part of the problem is the overbroad use of the term that has rendered it meaningless/mystified.

New York University (NYU) administrators say they are withholding the diploma of Black trans undergraduate student Logan Rozos pending “disciplinary actions,” after Rozos condemned the “atrocities currently happening in Palestine” during his commencement address for the Gallatin School of Individualized Study this week.

“As I search my heart in addressing you all today, my moral and political commitments guide me to say that the only appropriate thing to say in this time and to a group this large is a recognition of the atrocities currently happening in Palestine,” Rozos began, to cheers and applause from the crowd. “I want to say that the genocide currently occurring is supported politically and militarily by the Unted States, is paid for by our tax dollars, and has been livestreamed to our phones for the past 18 months.

“I do not wish to speak only to my own politics today, but to speak for all people of conscience, and all people who feel the moral injury of this atrocity,” Rozos continued. “And I want to say that I condemn this genocide, and complicity in this genocide.”
