I did a little bat talk and walk for kids between the ages of about 4 and 8 yesterday. Public engagement (especially for kids) is not really my thing so was pleased to give it a go. I enjoyed it but bloody hell it's hard to keep their attention and I have new respect for people that do it for a job.

Few better feelings as an NFL fan than tuning into Redzone for the late games after your team has won in the early window. Been a rare experience as a Jags fan until last season.

Skylarks and sandwich terns among new birdies on reserve created from ‘boring old golf course’
National Trust has transformed Sandilands in Lincolnshire into a nature reserve with wetlands and wading pools There is no chance of a birdie or an eagle any more. But there are skylarks, short-eared owls, avocets and curlew. Sandilands, a former golf course on the Lincolnshire coast, has been transformed by the National Trust into a 2km-long nature reserve with wetlands, wading pools, rough grassland and coastal scrub. Chiltern Railways enters public ownership in Labour nationalisation push
Operator that runs services between London Marylebone and Birmingham is sixth to be nationalised since 2025 Chiltern Railways has become the latest train operator to enter public ownership as the government closes in on its ambition to renationalise all major passenger rail services. The operator, which runs commuter rail services on the Chiltern mainline between London Marylebone and Birmingham, on Sunday became the sixth to be nationalised under Labour, with the remaining four to follow by the end of 2027. Great to do some canal-based wanderings in Jericho today on our way to the Oxford Canal Festival. Stopped at The Old Bookbinders for an emergency pint on the way back too, ofc.
Rewley Road Swing Bridge in Oxford, adjacent to the Oxford Canal. The swing bridge has two parallel sets of railway tracks. The swing bridge is surrounded by patchy grassland, and there is another railway bridge, and some houses in the distance. A small iron pedestrian bridge, painted white and black, over a canal surrounded by trees, with some cut branches in the foreground. The photo shows a side-on view of the Oxford Canal. The end of a blue canal boat and some overhanging tree branches are on the left of the image. St Barnabus Church with its tall tower is in the background.

Rewilded land remains green amid drought-stricken English countryside, images show
National Trust’s Holnicote estate says restored wetlands and rivers offer proof of resilience to drought, wildfires and flooding Aerial footage of an estate in Somerset has revealed the benefits of rewilding land in the face of extreme weather brought about by the climate crisis. The area of the National Trust’s Holnicote estate where rivers have been returned to their natural courses and wetlands have been restored have remained green and lush during the five heatwaves across the summer. In contrast, the surrounding countryside has become parched and brown. Continue reading...

I cannot see a dead fish as a "conservation success". Bluefin tuna are still rare - they only avoid being technically endangered cos they stabilised at a tiny number. That's not a healthy population, just a stable one. Let them breed and really do well before you fish for them if you have to.
