THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU is still an awkward as hell title, but the film itself is markedly better than RISE OF SKYWALKER. I watched it for the first time last night, and was struck by just how much fun it was. Like, “oh yeah, this is the vibe a Star Wars movie should have”

My girlfriend was on a call with her boss in her office. I was in my office, which is about 20 feet from hers, and I sneezed. It was apparently a full blown Dad Sneeze, because her boss, who was fiddling with something on his computer, thought it was her sneeze and said “bless you”

A crunching sound had been emanating from inside my laptop for the last couple of days. I stood it on one end to better listen to the fan. The laptop slipped and not-so-gently landed flat again. The crunching sound ceased.

its kinda crazy that anyone under 30 that wants to discuss politics has to frame all discourse based on streamers which have to be like 99.9999% men bcz when women talk about politics they get MORE d word threats than usual. which their usual is still higher than imaginable. Is this good?

I can’t believe the tech industry would get their customers hooked on a service with an artificially low price then jack it up once everyone was dependent on it. It’s not like that’s been the “disruption” model for 15 years or anything.

Reception

• The film received mixed reviews, with praise for its cute animation and lighthearted fun, but criticism for a fragmented plot and superficial character development.

It must have been Opposite Day when Trump declared “no new wars” and “America First”
"We're fighting wars. We can't take care of day care," Trump said at a private White House event
Wednesday.

"It's not possible for us to take care of day care, Medicaid, Medicare — all these individual things," he said. "They can do it on a state basis. You can't do it on a federal."

The Walk Home
It was nice out after work, so we walked to our local pub for dinner. It’s an easy, ten-minute stroll each way. Dinner was fine, as it usually is there. On the way home, while we were waiting at the one stoplight on our route, three things happened quickly. A minor crash occurred about a hundred feet from us. On Saturday, we had not one, but two social engagements. One was a friend’s birthday brunch, and the other was dinner with my old comrade Sarah, her husband, and their adorable kid who I finally had the honor of meeting. A good day, but by the end of it, I was worn out from the socializing. To unwind, we fired up the Solo Stove, tossed in some color packs, and lounged beneath the darkening sky.

Inventing Tropes
'The Hill: Hobbiton-across-the Water', J.R.R. Tolkien. August 1937 Finished THE HOBBIT yesterday morning, just before it was time to start working. None of my thoughts around the book are fully baked yet, but my initial reaction is I enjoyed it very much. I get why it knocked people flat when it came out in 1937 -- Tolkien was just inventing so many of the epic fantasy tropes.

I was staring out the front window this afternoon, dissociating in between work calls, when I noticed this little blotch of color in the mulch. I slid on my boots and went out front. It was gray, cold, and had just stopped snowing, and amidst all that gloom was this little bluish purple hyacinth. The little flower seems to me like it was leaning in towards the garden light, but to what end?

Yesterday it was 70 degrees. I would have fired up the gas grill had the wind not been crazy powerful. Then, overnight, it was fierce winds and thunderstorms battering the house so intensely that it woke me up. And today... snow. The Midwest truly is midwesting today. Fortunately, I stocked up on Sudafed recently — the good stuff, the pseudoephedrine — not that phenylephrine crap that might as well be a sugar pill for all the good it does.

For my birthday dinner this year, we indulged and had cheddar bay biscuits from Red Lobster, a petite filet mignon, and fried Oreos from Twist delivered to us. Each thing on its own was very fine, but the combination of the three was even better than the sum of its parts. Woke up this morning to my phone politely notifying me that we were under a tornado watch until noon. This follows after having had several tornado warnings last month. This should perhaps feel more notable than it does, given Ohio’s tornado season doesn’t normally kick off until April. But as the Earth continues to get hotter, “normal” from a climate perspective will come to mean less and less.

This got me excited, because I am enamored with these shoes and was more than willing to talk about them. Most of the shoes that come with a tuxedo rental are ugly, uncomfortable, and generally just unpleasant to wear.

My first edition of TRAVELS, Michael Crichton’s autobiographical book, came in the mail today. It’s a lovely object. Several years ago, I consciously changed my book collecting approach to put less focus on accruing and more on curating. I love owning books: love the way they look, smell, and feel in a home, but I also don’t want every room in the house to be a library.

I was in a malaise for most of today, for no reason as far as I could tell. Just one of those days where the brain decides it’s going to be a little shit. 054 – Thots and Players
I’m always heads down and focused at work, making spreadsheets sexy and looking into the most important things. Low-key evening. By the end of the workday, I was feeling very meh. Tired and kind of achy. I don’t think I’m getting sick; more likely my body is getting rundown from several nights of less than stellar sleep and some good ol’ fashioned Being Busy. So tonight we got dinner from Hate Chicken, cozied up under the heated blanket on the pull-out couch in the basement, and watched SPIRITED AWAY.
