Top tip: the DAG is there to help you understand that you *can't* draw any causal inferences in that situation.

Great piece by @scientificdiscovery.dev "Longevity isn’t one obscure problem that needs to be ‘cracked’ in order for us to live longer. We’ve been able to reduce mortality and delay death by continuously working on a wide range of problems."

I have been a bit bored over Christmas, so I started working on a little blog post about good academic writing for my group. I was wondering, what are key things you have learned about academic writing that you wish you would have known earlier?  🧪 #AcademicSky

I did an academic writing course and some key takeaways were 1) write with reader in mind 2) start broad and then specific 3) start with an outline 4) it's ok to step away if you are stuck, leaving it for a few days and then taking another look can help. I still incorporate all of this in my work

An explanation of the difference between within-subject variance and between-subject variance for repeated measures data. #stats
5 subjects have many points over the x-axis, each with a linear fit and a slightly positive slope. There is some noisiness in points' y-position, however that variability is much smaller than the variability in the baseline for each subject. The small variability in each subject's points is the within-subject variance. The large variability across all subjects is the between-subject variance.

Prevention United looks brilliant. I'd be very happy to have a call to see if there is a way to connect/collaborate. Some links: Neighbourhood social connection for onset prevention: www.youtube.com/watch?v=94Ia... International task force for relapse prevention of depression: itfra.org

Thank you for your comment - it's going well! I am very interested in trying to understand which of the current approaches (e.g. group based cbt or digital) work best for which individuals (personalisation). I am also studying social connection as an active ingredient for prevention

Thank you! Sorry to hear you couldn't celebrate. I only picked mine up after the pandemic. The current challenge is where to put this in the house, not an easy thing to put on your shelves but keeping it in storage is also quite sad!

Feels like a fresh start to me, also so far it feels more 'focussed' as in less irrelevant posts (did anyone mention all the ads) and more interesting posts from colleagues
