Drawing on a study of 223,587 science news stories, Hao Peng, @innovation.bsky.social , and @davidjurgens.bsky.social find that researchers with non-Anglo names are more likely to not be directly named in news stories and have their names replaced with those of their institutions. #AcademicSky

Top tip: the DAG is there to help you understand that you *can't* draw any causal inferences in that situation.

Great piece by @scientificdiscovery.dev "Longevity isn’t one obscure problem that needs to be ‘cracked’ in order for us to live longer. We’ve been able to reduce mortality and delay death by continuously working on a wide range of problems."

I have been a bit bored over Christmas, so I started working on a little blog post about good academic writing for my group. I was wondering, what are key things you have learned about academic writing that you wish you would have known earlier?  🧪 #AcademicSky

An explanation of the difference between within-subject variance and between-subject variance for repeated measures data. #stats
5 subjects have many points over the x-axis, each with a linear fit and a slightly positive slope. There is some noisiness in points' y-position, however that variability is much smaller than the variability in the baseline for each subject. The small variability in each subject's points is the within-subject variance. The large variability across all subjects is the between-subject variance.

My first ever post on here! Really excited to be on a different platform, look forward to connect with colleagues I finished my PhD in 2021, and am currently a Prudence Trust Research Fellow. My research is on improving interventions for the prevention of depression and anxiety in youth.
