I got stuck on Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Rear the Reaper" today (outro to today's episode of Reacher) so I read up on it. The writer is appalled that people think it's about a murder-suicide pact. However, reading the lyrics, that's -exactly- what it is. I can't see any other interpretation.

for the record, my thoughts about ai sentience go thus: i believe that machine sentience is possible. i do not believe that it will mimic human sentience, nor do i believe that it will obviously/immediately will share many - if any - hallmarks that we, as humans, use to define "sentience".
