We have almost reached the finale of The Boys. A show that should have ended a season or two earlier, and which is increasingly obsessed with things going up or coming out of bottoms.

If your character smiles, write that they/he/she smiled. Not offered, gave, quirked, delivered, showed a smile.

Controversial opinion of the day - the term crossover fiction can get in the sea. Shortly followed by 'New Adult'.

Saturday's gig was Sam Campbell at the New Theatre in Oxford. An evening of silly fun. Very much enjoyed it. Especially for the Big Night Out vibes.

Last night's gig was Mike Wozniak at the Oxford Play House. Absolutely loved it - Wozniak's whimsical provincial tales are beautifully structured, beautifully observed, and pleasingly strange. "I know he's a liar, because he once told me he saw a cow do a press-up."

Having listened to The Castle, Jon Ronson's excellent new book. Bloody hell, it's good. Makes me extra angry about AI and billionaires.

Initially I was frustrated with the rise of self-checkout but I appreciated how stores passed the savings on to me rather than pocket the money, fire armies of workers & make me do a job I suck at. It’s also why I’m optimistic about AI! I have been kicked in the head by several horses.

AI may be dangerous, say the people who make AI. What if - and hear me out - you don't make it dangerous then? Better yet, hoy it into the sea. Right fucking in it.

The Killings at Parrish Station was just perfect. Just the right amount of cosmic horror to get your imagination going and a thread of dry humour throughout. Also, six and done. Great to have a show that is brave enough to tell a complete story.

I'm not sure why we're posting about ai but I don't use AI in my writing, in my cover art, etc. I've had every feature that could automatically modify text in Word turned off for decades, and AI is just more of the same. Every edit lovingly done by hand.

Inbetween avoiding dissolving into soup and doing TFN work, I just read Petrol Head by @robwilliams71.bsky.social @pye.bsky.social Absolutely excellent work. Robots, rogue ai, environmental damage, compsiracies & spectacle to distract the masses. Finger chillingly on the pulse and a riveting read.
The cover to Petrol Head by Rob Williams and Pye Parr. Showing a futuristic hot rod muscle car speeding, while hovering above can be seen a young girl looking a little concerned and agitated and behind her a humanoid robot, with a round head, and two yellow optic sensors and an exhaust pipe on one side of it's head emitting smoke.,

Feeling rather helpless in the face of it all at times this week. I totally understand the link between climate change and heat waves, and where it's all come from. But feeling beaten over the head by a lot of 'isn't this terrible and it will get worse' posts. Somewhat freezes you into inaction.
