Made it to the Lucas Museum. Liked a lot of what I saw. A lot of it wasn’t to my taste but that’s fine. So much stuff. Here are some pieces I enjoyed seeing.

Here, have a Roy Crane panel.
A panel from Buz Sawyer, drawn by Roy Crane. It's a textbook lesson is the creation of mood, depth, and focus through the use of massed areas of black, artfully placed cast shadows, and simple aerial perspective.

Alex Toth adapting Harper (1966). Interesting characters, a classic car, beautiful women, 60s psychedelica, LA noir and Paul Newman. It has one of my favourite opening scenes ever and Paul Newman is great in it. Toth would be perfect for it. Ross Macdonald's Archer books are brilliant too.

Here's Steve Ditko discussing his objections to Stan Lee adding sound effects to his work, and a couple of pages from Ditko's final story in Amazing Spider-Man #38. I guess Smilin' Stan decided to give Steve a farewell gift.
Commentary
I REMEMBER SOUND EFFECTS
Ditko
Stan has his version of our working relationship.
"I used to create and design all the sound effects
that appeared in the strip. I also added the innumerable
speed lines which I felt helped to liven up the action
scenes. I was real proud of my artistic contributions
and always wondered why Steve never complimented
me for dressing up the panels, Well, here's the punch
line - it wasn't 'til years later that I learned that he hated
speed lines and sound effects! I don't just mean hated
- I mean HATED!" (Stan's Soapbox, Marvel Age July
1992)
As to Stan's sound effects version.
He is mistaken.
I often objected to his use of and placement of
sound effects in and on my artwork, telling him that it
corrupted my design for no good reason.
He responded by saying the sound effects will make
for a stronger scene, especially a fight scene.
When I asked him what a battle scene in Hai Foster's
Prince Valiant would look like with Marvel speed lines
and sound effects, he answered that Foster wasn't
doing a daily strip.
l used to get non-sequiturs like that from Stan whenever
I would question or criticize one of his decisions.Amazing Spider-Man #38 fight scene by Steve Ditko. Sound effects by Stan Lee.Amazing Spider-Man #38 fight scene by Steve Ditko. Sound effects by Stan Lee.

Watching Point Blank for the first time in a while. On this viewing something that stands out is how Marvin nails being quite reasonable, while still being a man who cannot be reasoned with.
Lee Marvin lounges on a couch in a brown sport coat, a revolver casually resting on his thigh. Angie Dickinson stands behind him with a hand on his shoulder. His face is weary and resolute, hers is alert and maybe...protective?

Point Blank is one of the great LA movies, filled with lies, violence and corruption under the smoggy sun. This noir is filled with color, dream-like sequences and edgy editing, and Lynch, The Limey & John Wick all have roots here. If, like me, you haven’t seen it in decades, consider fixing that!
Still from Point Blank showing actor Lee Marvin, a handsome gray-haired man in a gray suit, sitting in a car with burgundy colored upholstery on the right hand of the screen. He looks maybe hostile, suspicious, frustrated. On the left side is a reflection in the car window showing the house he’s waiting in front of. It’s white brick, with the white artfully eroding, and bushes outside. It looks expensive.
