Palantir shifting from hiring only "Ivy or Ivy-equivalent" degrees to hiring only out of high school is an admission that "training" and "talent" were never factors at all. They were looking for packaging & prestige, and now they're looking for ignorance & impressionability.
Tech companies launching their own programs to train grads because they ‘can’t rely’ on Ivy Leagues
By Lydia Moynihan
Published Oct. 1, 2026, 6:00 a.m. ETAs the university system increasingly becomes a wildly expensive bastion of anti-Western sentiment, key figures in Silicon Valley are betting on alternatives to higher education. They argue that even the Ivy League is no longer producing the best candidates — nor are they even accepting some of the most qualified students.

“It used to be the case that you could rely on somebody who went to an Ivy or Ivy-equivalent to be top notch,” said Jordan Hirsch, who runs Palantir’s semester-long intensive Meritocracy Fellowship, which accepts high school graduates.“But that’s not the case anymore… we suspected that there was a lot of talent being missed.”

Woke up, made coffee, and sat at my laptop where companies gathered and shared information about my news consumption, entertainment preferences, shopping habits, and more. When I left the house, my departure time was recorded by my smart lock and my doorbell camera captured what I was wearing. 🧵

I think one of the very practical reasons not to jump on the AI train is that as soon as you start to rely on it, companies who are already underwater are going to jack up the prices, and you'll either have to go back to the old way of doing things or pay out the nose for it.

Not to be an intolerable wordsmith about it all, but it might help if we stop saying "protect" when the more accurate verb is "control."

I’m constantly telling my students that half the battle on writer’s block is giving yourself enough time for unstructured subconscious idea processing. (The other half, per Marilyn Kallet, is lowering your standards enough to get something on the page because you can always revise.)

The tech bros gave us crypto currency that isn’t currency, artificial intelligence that isn’t intelligence, and prediction markets that are inside-trader scams. On the other hand, they have given us gigantic data centers that employ no one and destroy communities. So there’s that.

Listen, college seminars are full of 18 year olds. Are you smarter, more capable, more literate than an 18yo? Then you can handle the level of discourse in a college seminar. People need to grow up and take responsibility for their own indifference to listening, thinking, and learning.

The reality is that foreign students are the ones investing in the US: they invest their money and their skills. That allows us to have stronger higher Ed, more slots for domestic students and a better economy.
"This idea that American citizens don't have the talent to do great things, that you have to import a foreign class of students...to do these things? | just reject it. I just think should invest in our own people."
