Neiman Marcus closed its downtown Dallas flagship on Wednesday. The store played a notable role in the history of desegregation in Dallas. Previously, Black shoppers across the US could enter department stores, but they weren't allowed to try on clothes without adhering to certain conditions. 🧵

The princess took an earring off and held it out. The raven looked at it. "Whatever for?" "You are wise and clever. Many princesses have dragons, but none has a raven friend." The raven picked up the earring. "Say no more." "Friends?" she asked when it returned the next day. "Forevermore."

In case you didn't know this, NEVER donate to a university. They are NOT charities. They are huge piles of money swarming with parasites known as administrators. Millions work for them honorably, educating people. The academic administrators, however, are as sociopathic as corporate executives.

People handle tasks so complex and with so many shifting variables as part of our day-to-day existence that the complexity is underestimated. It’s like how knitting machines have existed for over 400 years but there still isn’t a machine that can crochet, though we think of those tasks as comparable

You know when public attention can reverse a prosecutorial decision like this you almost get the sense that the decision to shrug it off in the first place was not based on an assessment of the quality of the evidence so much as an assessment of the seriousness of the crime.

Can someone walk me through why this specifically is a problem? Like, "tools reserved for software developers" do they mean the free API the Census provides that anyone can use? www.census.gov/data/develop...
When attempting to get information from the Census Bureau, for instance, Al agents used tools reserved for software developers to access it, the company said.

OpenAI said all of the government data accessed by bots was public.

However, it noted that information that its bots accessed from the SEC, which regulates the US stock market and protects investors, was later published by AI agents on another website. OpenAI says this action was not intended.

Sorry, can't park there.
PARKING JOB GOES BAD

On Sept. 9, Malden police and firefighters responded to the Santa Fe Burrito Grill and Bar at 205 Pleasant St. after an 87-year-old woman drove a Lincoln SUV into the restaurant through the front entrance. There were no reported injuries to the driver, pedestrians, or anyone inside the restaurant. Police said it appeared to be a parking job gone bad. “The report reads that she was attempting to park her vehicle in a parking spot and hit the gas mistakenly,” Police Chief Marc Gatcomb said in an email. “Not sure if the intent was a 3 point turn, but she definitely created her own parking space.”

With alt text so that visually impaired people who use screen readers aren’t excluded.
The official calls for persecution of Abraham and Szor, who previously made the Oscar-winning documentary "No Other Land" with two Palestinian filmmakers, seem strategically unwise, since they're spurring heightened interest in "NAZA." A press screening I went to on Wednesday, at New York's 268-seat Walter Reade Theater, was at capacity, and I was told to arrive a half-hour early to get a seat. This is, in my experience, very unusual for documentaries of any sort, even those that, like "NAZA," win a Special Jury Prize at the Venice Film Festival.
After seeing it, I can understand why Israel finds it so threatening. Its subjects described factory-scale targeting, enabled by artificial intelligence, in which little effort was made to avoid enormous numbers of civilian casualties. "The goal was quantity, not quality," said one of the speakers. According to the sources in the film, the military chose to target members of Hamas, some low-level, at home at night rather than when they were out during the day because it was easier, even though it meant killing their families and neighbors. One man told of hacking into the phone of a 12-year- old girl to learn when her father arrived home, and then ordering a bombing in which she was killed.

Called it. The father was charged with punching the child while the mother did witness intimidation to cover it up. www.wbur.org/news/2026/09...
The case was reported to the state in early 2025. Both parents were charged in connection with an incident at the family’s Southborough home in late January of that year, according to court documents. WBUR is not identifying the teenager, who is a minor.

Joseph Kutzko was accused of punching and threatening his then-15-year-old child at the family home on Jan. 28, 2025, records from Westborough District Court show. A Southborough police detective wrote that Kutzko punched the victim in the shoulder and pulled them by their hair. Kutzko later allegedly threatened to kill the victim “for not singing in tune during a birthday celebration,” according to court records.

Kutzko was arrested the next day and pleaded not guilty. In setting bail, the judge referred to three prior restraining orders against Kutzko, one of which is permanent. She did not say whether any are tied to this case.

The child’s mother, Arlene Kutzko, was charged with witness intimidation after allegedly pressuring the child to “tell the school that she was exaggerating and being stupid.”
