No, this isn't rage bait. 2025 is wrapping up, and the U.S. is still a leader in mass incarceration. The data is clear: The U.S. criminal legal system is out of step with the rest of the world. It's time to end the failed experiment of mass incarceration, once and for all.

🚨Jail expansion vs. decarceration is a matter of life and death. New data shows that county-level jail incarceration is associated with an increase in deaths generally:
Chart showing that in Baldwin County, Alabama, there were 57 more deaths with a 50% increase in jail rate after new jail construction. In Contra Costa County, California, there were 52 fewer deaths with a 25% reduction in jail rate after COVID-related decarceration.
