Here's what they don't tell you about woodpecker tongues: Some of them are barbed (pileated & downy 'peckers) to allow them to spear insects. The barbs are keratinized, so *hard*. Meaning woodpecker *threat displays* can involve poking an interloper with a barbed tongue. (📷: u/ElvisIsNotDjed)

A bunny in a large shopping cart launches the cart of a small cliff into a lake, presumably using momentum from a hill or ramp. A second bunny, frightened clings to the handle of the cart as it goes.

Diprotodon, the proto-wombat, was the size of an SUV. They lived alongside anatomically modern humans in Australia for about 10,000 years until going extinct about 25-40,000 years ago. If they had proportionally sized cubic poop, it would be the size of a cinderblock, I think?
Something I found on Reddit. It shows a hypothetical scale-up of the wombat, probably ahistorical, as the Diprotodon is from a distinct lineage from the modern wombat, but it gets the idea of size across by putting it next to a modern northern hairy-nosed wombat.

Happy weekend! Here’s a 3,500 year-old Minoan clay flask decorated with a wide-eyed octopus! 🐙❤️ From Palaikastro, Crete. Heraklion Archaeological Museum 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows a frontal view of a clay flask with warm-yellow coloured slip with black hand painted decoration depicting an octopus. The octopus is swimming diagonally with eight writhing, sucker-lined arms covering the surface of the flask. It stares out at the viewer with wide, almost cartoon-like eyes. Additional black painted motifs include sea urchins, tritons, small rocks and seaweed. Minoan decoration depicting sea motifs is known by scholars as the 'Marine Style'. The flask measures 27 cm (about 10.5 inches) in height. It has a short spout at the top with a small loop handle at either side and a small base so that it can stand upright.

“Its shape is somewhat unusual, constructed by slipping together, while still leather hard (clay that is not quite dry), two shallow plates which had been made on a fast spinning potter’s wheel and with highly refined clay. The circular bases of these shallow plates are still visible in the center of both sides of the flask” (Smart History article “Octopus Vase” by Dr Senta German https://smarthistory.org/octopus-vase/)

The flask was excavated in 1903 at a Bronze Age settlement site at Palaikastro. The excavations between 1902 and 1906, were run by R. Bosanquet and R.M. Dawkins from the British School of Athens. The flask is part of the collections at Heraklion Archaeological Museum, Heraklion, Crete.

The image is of a four panel comic.
The first panel is titled “things that are spooky”. We see a book of hexes, a skull, candles, a pentagram in blood, and vampire teeth. Pointing off panel we see a speech bubble that says “I love it”.
The second panel is titled “things that are cute”. We see a strawberry cake, a boba drink, a bunny plushie, and a cute notebook and pen. Again, we see a speech bubble pointing off panel that says “I love it”.
The third panel is titled “things that are spooky AND cute”. We see a row of cute decorative ghosts.
The fourth panel shows Sarah, the protagonist, completely freaking out at this combination.

I'm worried people will think this is just a fluke of photography. Like, here's a photo of Hippasteria muscipula from Okeanos Explorer off the coast of Hawaii in 2015. This echinoderm has back. Pixar has expressed interest. It works the glutes.
Hippasteria muscipula, an orange bumpy deep-sea starfish on a black lava rock, with some coral sprigs nearby, I think? It has swollen central lobes, making it look like it has a human-like body with deep upholstery.

Three thousand years ago, a Greek potter looked at a bowl and thought: ‘You know what this needs? A leg!’ Clay bowl with leg-shaped handle!🦵😆 Early Geometric period 850 BC. Altes Museum, Berlin 📷 by me #Archaeology
My photo shows an ancient Greek pottery bowl with a rounded, deep body, wide open mouth and flared rim. It has a large handle shaped like a human leg, extending from the left side of the bowl in my photo, bending at a right angle and ending in a flat foot. The bowl has a camel-coloured surface decorated with dark brown geometric patterns, which include zigzags and meander motifs arranged in horizontal bands around the body of the bowl and along the leg. From Attica, Early Geometric period, circa 850 BC. It sits on a light stone coloured surface in a display case at the Altes Museum in Berlin.
