Hello Blueskies, I don't have the time or patience or studio equipment to record an educational presentation. Is there somebody in here who could help me set up a lip-syncing avatar to perform my role from a script for streaming ? Without needing to take a bank loan.

Hey @1goodtern.bsky.social How is the "respiratory season" going ? An increasing number of radio and television presenters are breathless and hoarse, and MPs are clearly suffering with cold-like symptoms. Anecdata coming from schools, too.

Involved in family care of elders today. God TV is on. The preacher is praying for healing for people. Suddenly I have insight. Many ordinary Americans are thrown on the mercy of Jesus, because they can't afford healthcare. Let's get back to the communal welfare of the Acts of the Apostles.

Currently dealing with my almost monthly cold/flu and need to vent.

Me and my boyfriend caught COVID twice in a short space of time in 2021-2022, we barely got ill before but now it has been almost constant. I started off with long COVID (it triggered vestibular migraine and dissociation that lasted for a year and a bit, still deal with it on and off).

I need to vent because UK workplaces are not accommodating of the fact that people are sicker than they used to be. I know so many people including myself and boyfriend thats jobs are being threatened because of having to be off sick when there is naff all we can do about it! Something needs to be done to protect the workers from circular rules when the world has changed to squares (I hope that makes sense, does in my sick brain)

I'm so exhausted, I want to be at work earning money not laying in bed barely able to function.

New modeling study finds that if everyone in the United Kingdom had worn N95 or FFP2 masks from the start of the pandemic, the rate of COVID-19 transmission would have been 9 times lower.
What if everyone had masked up? Analysis of app data has an answer
Modelling study based on almost 250,000 positive COVID-19 tests in the United Kingdom shows that universal masking could have cut transmission markedly. What would have happened if everyone in the United Kingdom had worn high-grade masks during the COVID-19 pandemic? A modelling study1 has estimated just how sharply transmission might have dropped.

Determining the effect of masks on viral transmission is difficult, and most studies so far have been affected by limitations such as small sample sizes. To overcome this issue, Richard Sear at the University of Surrey, UK, developed a model of transmission using data from the UK National Health Service COVID-19 app. The app, which ran on mobile phones between 2020 and 2023, logged information about infections and the length of time users came into contact with each other.

Sear built on a previously published analysis2 of 240,000 positive COVID-19 tests and 7 million contacts — instances in which app users were notified that they had been exposed to the virus. He estimated that if everyone in the United Kingdom had worn N95 or FFP2 masks — both highly effective at filtering particles — the rate of COVID-19 transmission would have dropped by a factor of 9.

I started wearing a mask about a month before most of the population of the United States even knew the covid was coming. A P100 mask. I have not had any problems since, and I have not even caught a small cold! It's simple common sense! Works wonders. The next thing, get ready for the bird flu.

Just because a bunch of professors at Stanford say COVID’s no big deal doesn’t make it true. You know this. You know someone who’s died from covid. You know someone with long covid. You’ve probably had covid several times yourself. They are spreading misinformation because it fits their ideology.

In 1888, a course at MIT taught how to use CO2 measurements to determine whether a building was properly ventilated. The CO2 thresholds recommended in 1888 are exactly those used in 2024 by a large number of official agencies: 600, 800, 1000 and 1500ppm. Public health is also a matter for engineers.

Before 2020, I was sick pretty often and it was a really big obstacle for me academically. Now several years wiser, I'm teaching classes of >80 undergrads and not even catching a sniffle all term. Getting sick this much less this easily has been a huge quality of life upgrade; I highly recommend it!

A young Zackie Achmat wearing an HIV positive t-shirt, smiling and waving his arms. He is a brown skinned Cape Malay man with black haur. With him is Nelson Mandela also wearing a similar shirt, waving his arms. Nelson Mandela has a similar skin colour and grey hair. They are with a crowd.

Many people threw caution to the wind, and masses of people became ill with diseases such as tuberculosis, and their immune system couldn't cope. So even if they recovered a little for short periods, they got progressively weaker and died.

But they weren't better. The illness harmed their immune system and made them vulnerable to other infections. The virus is called HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) and the disease is called AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome).
