The UN AI panel's first Thematic Brief "sets a dangerous precedent at the science–policy interface," argue Jason Tucker, Virginia Dignum and Petter Ericson, by treating the OpenAI-Hugging Face incident as more of an alignment problem rather than an oversight failure.

I have an uneasy feeling with Maria Ressa's media blitz, feels like a Kamala Harris / Gavin newsom moment for journalism / "free press" / ai ethics, whatever this is. The talking points sound alright (nothing is outwardly objectionable), but you also know an establishment figure when you hear one.

One thing I find endlessly funny about the rise of AI is that it has revealed that there is a large number of people who believe that the reason they wrote essays at school or university is their teachers were desperately waiting for them to provide a definite answer to “Lear: what’s up with him?”

A smiling woman stands on a city street next to a white cargo e-bike. She has dark long hair with a flower clip, glasses, and is wearing a short-sleeved blue patterned jacket with orange trim over a peach top, a long floral-patterned skirt, and white sneakers. Her bike is a white Urban Arrow front-loading cargo bike with a large black front box, yellow panniers on the rear rack, a helmet hanging from the handlebars.A closer shot of the same woman, with people sitting at picnic tables in the street behind her.
