A key mechanism of colonial fascism for complicity: narratively transfer genocides to the past + performatively regret them (w/o any consequences like land back, but profiting), while ignoring their presence. That’s all I can think about when I see Germany suddenly protesting their far-right now.

Those denying systemic violence will irrationally view resistance as violence. Reversal of victim and offender.

Let’s never forget that Frantz Fanon's dissertation was rejected, which was later published as Black Skin, White Masks.

What is happing with Twitter and BlueSky is a typical neoliberal mechanism: While one major alternative is openly fascist, the other one, which doesn’t have any features to protect marginalized people, is being promoted by the mainstream as better—just for not being fascist towards the mainstream.

Musk charging the use of Twitter for all is the next step of his INTENTIONAL DESTRUCTION of that very platform marginalized people all over the world have used to organize against and educate about coups and mechanisms of oppression. #MeToo, #BLM, #ArabicSpring #Sudan etc.

Decoloniality is destruction/reconstruction. It means refusing complicity (e.g., Boaventura supporters), while recognizing “that what [needs] to be repaired is irreparable. It can’t be repaired. The only thing we can do is tear this shit down completely and build something new.

Two aging dams failed in Libya—once Africa’s most prosperous nation—and whole neighborhoods in Derna were swept away. 12 years after the 2011 NATO mission to overthrow Gaddafi, Libya’s economy and infrastructure have been decimated by war and now the interplay of climate change and imperialism.

I was at Mills College on 9/11. I knew in an instant what is was going to mean for the Arabic world. Everyone else was just living their lives. And indeed, neoliberal-neocolonial-fascist wars, genocides, and coups had been the state of normalcy for decades. Hence, I’ll remember 9/11/73 today.

East #Libya is flooding — and the West, who bombed the prospering country into poverty in order to exploit the following destruction, is silent about it. Europe creates theses disasters through its carbon spewing and it makes these disasters worse through its destruction of infrastructure.

Academics don't say "hello", they say "I'm sorry it took me so long to get back to you", and I think it's honestly the sign of a culture that rewards over-commitment, and we should not glorify it

U.S. Immigration system uses A.I. translation tools, which often work poorly and mistranslate people. Then they use those mistranslations as the basis for denying people asylum. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023...
In 2019, Carlos fled Brazil with his sister and two nephews after his son was murdered in front of him by a local gang. Upon arriving in the US, he was separated from his family and detained in a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) detention center.

Carlos, who is Afro-Indigenous, speaks Portuguese but does not read or write it. Staff at the Calexico, California, detention center spoke only English or Spanish. The staff used an artificial intelligence-powered voice-translation tool to interpret what Carlos was saying, but the system didn’t pick up or understand his regional accent or dialect. So Carlos spent six months in Ice detention unable to meaningfully communicate with anyone.

In that time, he had no clear idea of why he was being detained or where his family was. When he sought medical care for his high blood pressure and for Covid, the nurses had trouble understanding him, he said. Spanish-speaking fellow detainees helped to fill out his asylum application

28 years ago today, France nuked the Moruroa atoll (again) against the protest of the Polynesian population. Between 1966 and 1996, France detonated 181 nukes above and below the atoll, which substantially damaged the atoll. The fallout from the tests affected 110,000 people (mainly on Tahiti).
A mushroom cloud from a nuclear explosion.

Forcing everyone to use real names doesn’t lead to less violence, but to more violence. The point is: it leads to less resistance against systemic violence and the privileged and to more violence against the marginalized.

German institutions claim to lead the struggle for decolonization, but their ranks continue to be filled with white, European faces and class privilege. Their diversity is an allegorical facade. A path to collective justice must be built.

Please remember Käte Rogalli, persecuted & murdered by Nazi Germany for being trans. Two days ago, in #Berlin, the first #Stolperstein was laid for a trans person without deadnaming them. A reminder, that historical science & remembrance culture are systemically violent.

What we learn from Amilcar Cabral is that decolonization requires destruction & construction. Destruction of political, economic, & cultural dependency. Construction of a radical political consciousness, collective or communal modes of production, & cultural-epistemic projects
