I started reading a book called A Moment of War by Laurie Lee, an autobiographical account of his involvement in the Spanish Civil War. I got jumpscared when he mentioned a man who happened to be called Ben Shapiro.

I know the 80s was the era of Robocop cartoons and Aliens toys, but I'm baffled that they thought Dirty Harry would make a fantastic NES game for kids.

Resident Evil Deadly Silence: THE WASPS GO IN THE WASP NEST
I love everything about the original Resident Evil. The story, the frequently bizarre voice acting, the way the horror of those first nervous playthroughs melts away into silky speedruns as Umbrell…

my sonic clone attempt became a skateboarding game 🫣 The rom is 956kb, everything made in pocket workstation, models, textures, level, animations. It helped me collect around a dozen bugs. Now my time budget as a game developer is over, time to get back to improving tools. #pocketworkstation

Resumed reading Cerebus (Vol. 2 High Society). Alan Moore apparently described the series as "to comics what Hydrogen is to the Periodic Table" and I think I'm starting to see what he meant. I'll stop reading at the point where Sim became a raving misogynist (around Vol. 5 or so).

Solatorobo: Red the Hunter (NDS) (2011) 1/10 You've probably noticed that I love the look of this gorgeous game, though I haven't even touched upon all the cool ingame cutscenes and boss fights since that would take me like a week to capture, so here's lots of colorful locales, hope you enjoy! 🙌
A beautiful grand adventure and a spiritual successor to Tail Concerto, set in the Shepherd Republic, made out of multiple sky islands scattered around a large area, populated by anthropomorphic dogs and cats, called Caninu and Felineko respectively, talking French and having adorable names like Chocolat Gelato.

We follow the exploits of Red Savarin, a Hunter, doing odd jobs and quests, accompanied by the aforementioned Chocolat Gelato, his adoptive sister as they fly the airship Asmodeus, going on a mission to get some stolen documents and get thrust into an epic adventure.

Here we have Red piloting his trusty Dahak mech, a bipedal robot with long dangly arms like the Robot Troopers from Laputa: Castle in the Sky with an open seat so the pilot is fully visible and exposed, like here with Red running around the white sky docks of Airedale, a beautiful sky island full of small houses built upon a central hill, full of trees, floating ships and birds flying over.

It would be an understatement to call this game gorgeous, it's one of the most beautiful games on the Nintendo DS system, with a beautiful anime opening by studio Madhouse and designs, visuals and story worthy of the best PS1 RPGs, it's just a joyful experience with lots of colorful characters and an epic story, so give it a shot if you haven't played it!The fungal forest of Vizsla, a sky island covered in "fungi dandelions", large yellow shrooms as a curvy wooden bridge leads Red to a giant Ladyshroom, a friendly red ladybug creature.Deep orange skies glowing over the mishmash of metal parts and flimsy stairs on the floating island of Basset, made out of wrecked airships and other machines, with birds flying under the tall metal pillars barely holding the walkways together. The capital city of Pharaoh, one of those typical quaint cities that show what Japanese people think the entirety of Europe looks like, with clock towers, train stations and residential buildings rising around a long cobblestone path with staircases leading downward, populated by lots of puppydog people, all curiously 2D drawn in wonderful pixel art fashion while Red in his mech is fully 3D.

Tried the Hellraiser demo. Despite modern design trends I don't care for (linear "ghost train" opening sequences, obligatory crafting, stealth kills) it's pretty good! Captures the feel of the films quite well. The gore makes modern RE look like an episode of Garfield and Friends

Carter's Quest is one of those visionary projects that you owe it to yourself to experience. What starts as a plucky adventure about a farmboy mysteriously stranded in a derelict wizarding college evolves into a cold war ballad about political espionage, free will and self sabotage. Go buy it!

Malibu comics Street Fighter is an all-timer because Sagat murders Ken in issue 2, leaves his scalp for Ryu to find, and then the series abruptly ends with an epilogue page informing the readership that the series is over because Capcom hated it.
Sagat scalping Ken while Balrog watchesRyu holding a scalp and a tattered bloody shirt while yelling KEN MY OLDEST FRIEND NOOOOO!As many of you might have heard, due to complications with Capcom and their dislike of our adaptation...Street Fighter the comic book has officially been cancelled.

Recently discovered The Train, a game where you're French resistance delivering Nazi-stolen art to the allies. It's a "plate spinning" simulator with multi-step input, playable in about 20 minutes. It feels like the progenitor to a modern indie game: Iron Lung 30 years before Iron Lung.

It's pretty crazy that Konami released this game on PS1 in Dec 2003, the late era of the console. "GeGeGe no Kitarō: Gyakushū! Yōma Dai Kessen" was part of three games celebrating the 80th anniversary of creator Shigeru Mizuki, alongside "Ibun Yōkai Kitan" (PS2) and "Kiki Ippatsu! Yōkai Rettō" (GBA)

It's the Mad Max: Fury Road "That's Bait" meme but I did a half-assed job of trying to make it look like a GBA game by tweaking the hue, saturation, and lightness as well as dithering it and tamping it down to the GBA's 240 x 160 screen resolution.

GBA was like Wario Land 4 and a few good Metroids, and everything else was "bad SNES port with oversaturated colour palette", "weaker version of console game", and horrible licensed shovelware.
