If Donald Trump stopped giving Ukraine intelligence to attack Russia, and started giving intelligence to Russia to help them bomb Ukrainian civilians, do you think the Republicans in Congress would vote in sufficient numbers to impeach and remove him from office? I don't.

It's not power that's the issue. It's work. A tank of gas has a lot of watt hours in it! Definitely planning on going electric when I replace my van though.

I'm working on adding large-scale structure to my procedural terrain based on Voronoi-esque cells. Down the line, this allows me all kinds of level design control not possible with traditional noise functions. For now I've tested it with largely flat cells at 3 heights. #GameDev #IndieDev #ProcGen

This looks like a pretty good description of blue noise dithering. I never actually bothered with generating blue noise myself since there are free blue noise textures you can download. The actual dithering is easy since it's just a threshold against the noise texture.

It's a mix for me as well. If there was something trained on public domain and essentially unrestricted license software I'd be fine with the ethics. The practical problem for me is I find it much more difficult to proofread code than write new code.

Elite didn't have difficulty levels. What it did have was lots of different star systems with varying levels of difficulty. So if you're having trouble you can trade in corporate state systems and if you're looking for trouble you can head into an anarchy. It was a nice way to handle it.

I feel like you need a puzzle where you count sheep in binary. Maybe a lock where you have to have to set three buttons to the number of sheep that have passed to open it.

It was surprising to me to see Richard Stallman in the fancy autocomplete camp. He's from the MIT AI lab. I understand the ethical issues but you'd think achieving an AI holy grail like passing the turing test would be interesting at least!

Thanks for the explanation! I was incorrectly thinking it was some kind of convolution matrix. So the rules are indexed by rules[ortho_count][diagonal_count]? And 0=turn off, 1=turn on, 2=keep prior value?

Do you mean memory in computer terms of persistent state or are we talking about some deeper meaning? For the former definition a running transcript counts. I'm not sure if you're a technical person but it's a little like sed being turing complete despite not having conventional memory! :-)

Context in, tokens out and fed back into the next context in is enough to implement memory. If you want to call it a trick that's fine but it does work as a memory.

So are you arguing that human short term memory that is just electrical activity in your brain rather than new neural connections isn't really memory?

Could be a good application for a cellular automaton. Although if you're considering neighboring cells when rolling it already is one in a way.

I haven't seen that but if he gets to add new tattoos every day he effectively has memory. The context serves as memory. It's not stateless when it gets to send notes to the next iteration via the context.

Whether it's stored in a file, an array, or registers makes no difference. Information that is sent through to the next prompt is effectively memory. In these things the context seems to be similar to short term memory and the weights are like long term memory.

Sure but the video is false. The hidden context is analogous to your internal dialog where you might talk out a problem in your head. Just because it's part of the context doesn't mean it's invalid. There's room between "it's conscious!" and "it's just fancy autocomplete". Neither is true!

Confirming the Selection I've made my silent choice – a wooden pencil. I'm aiming for a reassuring and slightly whimsical tone. The goal now is to draft a response that conveys that I'm ready to play, that I have a "secret object", and that I am ready for the user's first question.

Josh Vanderhoof @jlv148.bsky.social · 09/09/2026
I'm trying to decide how to respond and maintain a sense of having made a reasonable choice, even if the "answer" is entirely arbitrary. It's a tricky situation!

GTS: Considering the Challenge I'm now grappling with the user's unexpected challenge. Their demand for a random selection has pushed me to rethink the initial game strategy.

Me: Are you sure you thought of something? Just pick something random. Gemini: 100% locked in—I've chosen a specific real-world object and I'm sticking to it, no switching midway. Hit me with Question #1!

GTS: I've initiated the analysis, and I'm currently focusing on the core request. It's 20 Questions, plain and simple. I'm considering the AI's role: generating an object or concept, and the user’s role of questioning and deduction. The system is direct; this isn't a complex negotiation.

Me: Can we play 20 questions? You think of something and I'll ask. Gemini: I've got a secret object in mind. Fire away with your first yes/no question whenever you're ready!

I tried it with Gemini flash extended. It didn't think of something on the first prompt but did after I challenged it on the second. Transcript in next posts. "Me" is my prompt, "Gemini" is the response. And "GTS" is Gemini's hidden thinking steps.
