CBS Radio was the foundation of American broadcast journalism. Over five decades I filed hundreds of news reports for it and felt immense pride to have been on the same network as Murrow, Sevareid, Smith, Collingwood, Cronkite, Edwards, Trout, Townsend, Kuralt, Rather, Stahl, Knoller & Portnoy.

Weiss and Cibrowski announce they’re shutting down CBS News Radio, which has ~700 affiliated stations, on May 22. "Unfortunately, this decision means that all positions within the CBS News Radio team are being eliminated.” Thus, the CBS Radio Network (b. 1927) will be terminated at the age of 99.

While the final result is not yet in, the rejection of the initiative was resounding, both in total votes and in the number cantons. In 2018, the SVP had tried (and failed) to have the licence fee abolished. The SRG nontheless paid a heavy price despite the « victory » (2)

The Public Broadcasting Act of 1967 created the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. I reread it today; nothing in the law allows a president to defund PBS and NPR. In fact, Congress specifically sought to insulate public media from political pressure.
