as a hater let me acknowledge something ai is good at: producing irritating discourse at scale this is usually because, like "ai" itself, people are talking about different things like they are one thing so let me disentangle, with statements numbered for easy disagreement

An individual in Canada used ChatGPT for eight months to plan one of the country’s worst mass shootings. Yet, if you listen to politicians and media, the real threat of AI is a fantastical scenario where it might wipe out humans in ten years. They need to stop getting fooled by tech deceivers.

Toby Ord, Cofounder of the Effective Altruism movement, longtermist who believes humanity's goal is to create vast amounts of digital beings to colonize the cosmos, is the one advising your lawmakers on "AI".
Toby Ord tweet: 72 lawmakers in the UK have sent a letter to the Prime Minister, calling for an immediate ban on the development of superintelligence and the championing of an international treaty to do the same worldwide.

Quote tweeting

Alex Sobel MP for Leeds Central and Headingley

With 71 colleagues I am calling on the Govt to work with us on my bill to prohibit the development of superintelligent AI and champion an international agreement

We can then lead on preventing the extinction risk posed by superintelligence
