I wish that I had the energy to do a big, long thread about the real problem with Jasmine Crockett. It's mostly the same problem with Gavin Newsom. They are of a specific toxic archetype, and my formative experience with this is of a candidate for Congress here in Louisiana. x.com/JamesRobicha...

"we're supposed to be the good guys" is exactly how Rob Anderson was able to grift and harass so many people.

He saw the way that a certain segment of the non-GOP electorate gives automatic fealty to anyone who opposes the GOP, and he exploited it.

Maybe we just need to stop calling them accommodations. Because that only ever seems to imply that we get something 'extra'. That we are demanding and entitled and difficult.

No. This backwards. The NT world is what's 'extra'. The expectations, the demands, the entitlement that 'this is how it's you need to fit in and conform'. Those are the accommodations.

And I have played all your roles, met all your unspoken demands, lived with your disappointment and your upset when I can't. I've accommodated you all at ever turn. Until this is your definition of who I should be and my inability to keep it up indefinitely is nothing but a source of shame.

And still you don't get it. So how's about you just leave me alone then?

Fifteen years ago today at 13:45 CDT, Canadian National Railway train A419, with CN 8933 as the lead locomotive, crosses the Bonnet Carré Spillway eastbound. If the train was following normal procedure, it would stop in nearby Destrehan to make a pickup before turning northward at Orleans Junction in Kenner and would be in Mississippi before the crew finished its work for the day.

The Bonnet Carré Spillway was built in response to the Great Flood Of 1927 as a way to divert Mississippi River waters during swells past parts downriver and into Lake Pontchartrain, protecting such places from river flooding, as it has done since then. Occasionally, this land seen here is submerged with water flowing northward, with only the top of the bridge and the tops of trees visible.

This might be the only train picture in this photographer's library that was taken from within a tropical storm. Fifteen years ago today at 16:26 CDT, BNSF Railway train M-DYTCSX is moving eastbound in the rain of Tropical Storm Lee on the Friday afternoon before Labor Day.

"DYT" is BNSF's station code for Dayton, Texas, and the DYTCSX was a solid interchange train bound for CSX Gentilly Yard in New Orleans.

Research on autonomy-supportive parenting demonstrates that children whose parents provide meaningful choices, explain rationales for rules, acknowledge feelings, and support intrinsic motivation develop better self-regulation, higher intrinsic motivation, and stronger mental health than children whose parents use controlling strategies.

The recovery process begins with the adult changing, not the child. The adult must learn to offer choices rather than commands. To explain reasoning rather than demand obedience. To respect “no” when possible. To understand that a child’s resistance is information about what they need, not evidence of defiance.

I took this picture 20 years ago tonight in New Orleans just outside of Cooter Brown's, where I was for the Domecoming event. Read the caption for this picture and my recollections from that night here: www.facebook.com/permalink.ph...
Twenty years ago tonight was the "Domecoming", a major event in contemporary New Orleans history, and, on this night, your boy was at Cooter Brown's for the experience. Outside of the bar, which is just out of the frame to the left of the frame of the image here, was, at 20:22 CDT, MPEX 2003, light power on the New Orleans Public Belt Railroad, stopped at South Carrollton Avenue.

This was a big night in New Orleans, for this was the night of the “Domecoming” event, and I was nearby for that event, acting upon plans I had made only a few hours earlier, since I am not a big sports fan.

Two things from that night at Cooter Brown’s, which was quite crowded that night and where, that night, I drank a few pints of Guiness, stand out in my mind.

The first was that, when ESPN would show video of devastation of Hurricane Katrina during the pregame programming, there were audible groans among people in the bars as many of them turned away from the televisions in order to avoid seeing the video. We had lived through this stuff now being shown as consumption for viewers far away.

The second was that, when that famous climactic blocked punt happened, the noise level inside of that place was so loud that I damned near thought that it would blow off roof.

It really was a magical night, and I say that as someone who does not identify as a sports fan.

Just under five years later, Steven Gleason, who became a local hero by blocking that punt, revealed that he was suffering from ALS, and it was not long after that that he was confined to a wheelchair.

This is a good example of why hostility to transgender people and hostility to autistic people is largely the same thing, and largely from the same people. I didn't exhibit overtly feminine traits, but I exhibited traits that didn't fit in with what the other boys were doing. So, I was sanctioned.

9/11 marks the beginning of the American Century of Humiliation, not because of the attack itself, which rallied the world to our side, but because our response tipped a series of dominoes degrading our national character. Wars of choice, ICE and border closure, torture.

Doesn't this happen to every autistic person? I describe it like one of those deep-sea fish that can survive at that depth because, inside of their bodies, there is outward pressure that becomes too much as they approach the surface. www.facebook.com/groups/21159... <continued below>

Here is a picture that I made this afternoon in Schriever, Louisiana. Read the caption in the ALT-text or here on Facebook: www.facebook.com/permalink.ph... Merci.
Today, the New Iberia Turn - Union Pacific Railroad train LLD51S - left its home base at UP Avondale Yard in Avondale, Louisiana, with 34 cars, the first 10 bound for North Boeuf and the remainder bound for New Iberia.

The train got past CTC Live Oak Junction at about 14:14 CDT and then met an eastbound train in Raceland. At Schriever, a westbound BNSF Railway train, with BNSF 7595 as the sole locomotive, was stopped making a pickup of about 16 cars on the siding. On the mainline, The 51 Local train crept up alongside it.

After the BNSF train finished its work and departed, The 51 local train - with only the UP 1500 as power today - approached the west siding switch to restore it to the normal position, and, here, you see, at 18:11 CDT, Conductor Melançon getting ready to alight the locomotive to line the switch as Engineer Domangue waves first for the camera and then for the motorists whose afternoon journey he was momentarily delaying.

Domangue and Melançon, mais, that's a good south-Louisiana crew right there, bruh!
