RE: AIRSTRIKES Two reports highlighting aerial crimes vis a vis the new conflict in Ethiopia were published today. First, @hrw.org looked at visual evidence into the Aug 20th Ethiopian airstrike that injured a dozen civilians in the city of Mekele and found no valid military targets.

UPDATE: As war rages on in Ethiopia, @netblocks.org has confirmed what it calls a "subnational internet disruption," in the country's north. Phone/internet is disrupted across the Tigray region. A very bad sign. Comms blackouts in our region are typically implemented when atrocities are planned.

USAID’s destruction has also helped create an apocalyptically horrible funding environment for human rights investigation and atrocities prevention - IE, the work that helps expose mass-murder in places like Gaza and Sudan. Many of those programs are now close to the brink of closing.

Da ich häufig Zeitungsschnipsel kritisiere, zur Abwechslung mal ein ausdrückliches Lob für Andrea Böhm's Artikel in der Zeit heute: "In Deutschland empören wir uns gern über die demonstrative Menschenverachtung (...) Dabei ist die deutsche Debatte von der amerikanischen so weit nicht entfernt.
Auch Deutschland setzt gewaltige Fortschritte aufs Spiel
Donald Trump und Elon Musk konnten die Demontage von USAID auch deshalb so leicht durchsetzen, weil eine Behörde, die Geld für Probleme in entfernten Ländern ausgibt, das perfekte Opfer für ihre Ideologie von America First und dem radikalen Staatsabbau war. In Deutschland empören wir uns gern über die demonstrative Menschenverachtung, mit der Trump und Musk ihre Abrissaktion durchgeführt haben. Dabei ist die deutsche Debatte von der amerikanischen so weit nicht entfernt. Internationale Hilfe – oder einfach nur das politische Bekenntnis zu globaler Verantwortung für Krisen, die andere härter treffen als uns selbst – ist unpopulärer denn je. Abgeordnete und Minister, die sich dafür starkmachen, riskieren einen Shitstorm. Erinnert sei an die Kampagne gegen »Radwege für Peru«, in der AfD-Politiker und rechte Plattformen 2024 mit Fake News über angeblich Hunderte Millionen Euro aus dem Bundeshaushalt für Fahrradwege in Lima die gesamte Entwicklungshilfe zu diskreditieren versuchten: Als Verschwendung von Steuergeldern an Menschen am anderen Ende der Welt, die von dem Kuchen abbeißen wollen, den wir angeblich allein gebacken haben.
