Having spent some time atop this very alpine valley, this video is especially thrilling to watch.

I love this song so much. Can't decide if it's the vocals, the synths, the perfection of its song structure, the final slow-fade, or the coagulation of it all. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PksA... "Too Soon" by The Diogenes Club

Driving along the highway today I glanced at the damaged sections of the seemingly brittle barriers and wondered if there was a better solution and then magically this arrival appeared in the latest New Yorker.
Photo of the title of a New Yorker article entitled “Driven” along with the image of a man beside a highway barrier.

A childless warmonger who sent other people’s children off to die. A closeted gay man who squashed the freedoms of his own kind. A privileged elite who devoted his career depriving others of any advantage in life. Good riddance.

Of course he was nice to fellow senators & representatives—manipulation & persuasion is essential to the job. Ignore all these professional blowhards and their congenial statements. When the dust settles, the dead are remembered for their actions, not their niceness.

Childless people shouldn't have decision-making power over future generations. Good ridance to that vile dead-end senator.

A $3 @mta.info subway fare and some good Q train timing can buy you one hell of a view of the July 4th fireworks and the Brooklyn Bridge light show! Huge shoutout to the train operator for slow rolling over the Manhattan Bridge and the conductor for announcing it.

I really enjoy EB White's take on New York and New Yorkers.
An excerpt from EB White's Here is New York
There are roughly three New Yorks there is first the New York of the man or woman who was born here who takes the city for granted and accepts its size and its turbulence is natural and inevitable second there is the New York of the commuter the city that is devoured by locusts each day and spat out each night third there is the New York of the person who was born somewhere else and came to New York in quest of something of these three trembling cities the greatest is the last the city of final destination the city that is a goal it is this third city that accounts for New York's high-strung disposition it's poetical deportment it's a dedication to the arts and it's incomparable achievements commuters give the city its title restlessness natives give it solidity and continuity but the settlers give it passion and whether it is a farmer arriving from Italy to set up a small grocery store in a slum or a young girl arriving from a small town in Mississippi to escape the indignity of being observed by her neighbors or a boy arriving from the corn belt with a manuscript in his suitcase and a pain in his heart it makes no difference each embraces New York with the intense excitement of first love each absorbs New York with fresh eyes of an adventurer each generates heat and light to dwarf the consolidated Edison company

Today is the 134th anniversary of the beginning of the CTA Elevated Trains. On this day in 1892, the first "L" train ran from Pershing & State to Congress & Wabash. Chicago is the only city with elevated trains in its downtown area.

Put them on the defensive. Instead of asking the bad person why it's bad to be a bad person and accept their public denial, FORCE them to defend or disavow the bad thing. Stop taking them at their word.

More context on this #Artemis II image: * This is the night side, lit by moonlight. You can see city lights in Spain & Portugal, & a sliver of day at lower right * The Sun is entirely behind Earth, which makes it a kind of solar eclipse, but w/ Earth doing the eclipsing instead of the Moon: ☀️🌍🚀🌕
A full disc image of Earth, as seen from the Orion Crew Module. The planet is a pale blue, swirling with white clouds and glowing slightly lighter blue in place from reflected light. At lower left, a large brown landmass is Africa, with Spain and Portugal with twinkling lights where the planet curves. At top right, auroras glow in a thin green glow, just barely separated from the planet's surface. Earth is set against the black of space (pic: NASA/R.Wiseman)

I'm a home-bound news-junkie, disheartened by far-away travesties, but the thing that keeps me energized are localized acts of kindness and empathy—from me, to me. And I see it in their eyes. We all need this. And it will get us through.

My one-year affair with UHC has come to an end after they botched my company's benefits plan. More than actual healthcare, I believe my money was mostly spent on the three, thick, double-sided pages of repetitive mumbo jumbo that came with every EOB mailing.
