Hooklanders talk of dusk as 'hurry home'. It's an attempt to express that creeping sense of peril that comes upon you in certain places as the sun goes down. Twilight terror. Another cup of tea declined. The Highway Code ignored. The true rush hour of the county. – #MattAdams

The land becomes cold to the touch. The year turns towards restless ghosts and mists with a thousand tiny teeth. The dead in their dream incubation chambers come close to waking. They sniff the air for an alarm call of bonefire smoke and a rotting carpet of fallen apples. = #CLNolan

A poemical from '22.
To never imagine that
There are ways to think different to yours
To never intuit that your take
Might be toxic
Unkind
Blind

To never see
Wonder
Right before and
Behind your eyes

To never understand that we
We are all
We are all in this together

One of the things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard what seems good for a later place in the book or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise for later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath, like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it is destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

Here at the edge of the salt marsh, all magic is brined. Clouds race the sky for the delight of being augury. Boats are warded against the songs of blue-skinned Blood Sisters, the summoning of ill winds. The mud holds its stolen treasures and even we witches walk with caution. – #EmilyCBanting, 1982

I am so tired of horrible people doing horrible things and being dreadful. Here's a moment's escape, from a few years ago. There's still so much beauty and so many people doing wonder. Keep doing wonder, people.
A Suite of Micro Scapes

A dark tarn in a rock and pine-sheltered hollow, the scent of icy water and fat fish. A deep spring feeds the tarn, the hollow lush with moss. Tiny white alyssum flowers shawl thick grass. A small creek wanders eastward to the cold, cold sea.
*
Most forests are dark; this one is filled with light that comes down with the rain. It smells of kindness, the belly fur of a cat, jasmine tea. The mushrooms that grow there give good dreams, reliably, and they sing in the dusk, drawing moths the size of your two hands, together.
*
The moor is made of whispering. Your boots sink deep into its dark, susserant waves with every step. It makes you shiver. The feeling of loss, of sadness, of things not told is delicious, in its way, and you walk there often.
*
The Strait of More is a known passage for ghost birds, the ones that carry messages from the dead to the dreams of the living. On a ship, in the night, you can see them, a suggestion of motion, limned in a shimmer of longing, across the dark sky.
