Carly says...
It shouldn’t be hard to find out how your Mayor or Councillor voted on any given issue and yet, it can be very time consuming to watch recordings of council meetings or dig through minutes.

Making every vote a recorded vote would increase transparency and individual accountability.

In 2023, Regional Councillor Kari Williams brought forward a motion to amend the Region’s procedural by-law to require the recording of all votes during council and committee meetings. Her motion passed unanimously at committee and then regional council.

At the time, Councillor Williams told CBC KW, “The public has the right to see how we’re voting.” I couldn’t agree more.

The Belleville synagogue shooter was an antisemitic COVID conspiracist discharged from the army for refusing vaccines. It's wild that commentary on this shooting IMMEDIATELY went to anti-immigrant, Islamophobic bigotry. But THIS is the extremism that sent me an antisemitic death threat in 2022.

Carney opened Parliament by introducing a bill that undermines the right to strike and pre-approves pipelines in ways Harper’s Conservative government only dreamed of. While being sold to us as a way to stand up to Trump, these measures do the opposite. There is a better way forward.

GOP rank and file hoped to turn Mamdani into the midterm boogeyman. Instead, as Mamdani's time to brief the press came, he asked Trump on the spot to join him, and the president agreed, according to a person familiar with the meeting. During the presser, Mamdani called on MS NOW, CNN and POLITICO — the three outlets Trump banned from the White House last week.

I think it's ill-advised and anti-democratic to introduce an omnibus bill, cite a crisis, and rush major changes to labour and environmental law. It's going to provoke aggressive resistance and risks, ironically, slowing down the projects the government is so keen on. It's going to be a huge mess.

Ottawa Police have already been using police databases to stalk random women they see in public Now Toronto Police are (allegedly) using police databases to help drug traffickers interested in assassinating prison officials and intimidating witnesses to murders www.thestar.com/news/gta/stu...
Toronto Const. Timothy Barnhardt was unaware a recording device had been hidden inside his police cruiser as he invited an alleged drug dealer into the passenger seat. Barnhardt showed the man the computer screen attached to the centre console, where the veteran officer could search confidential databases containing people's home addresses. Police allege that Barnhardt had been feeding the information gleaned from the searches to criminals, who used it to conduct shootings, robberies and other violent acts. Inside the cruiser on that September 2025 day, the man handed Barnhardt multiple $100 bills, which the officer tucked into the front pocket of his police vest.

"They're not misunderstanding the film; they're co-opting a message"
Screencap from the interview linked in the quoted post

Marlow Stern (the interviewer): You have one of the most renowned replies in Twitter history. Elon Musk tweeted out, “Take the red pill,” then Ivanka Trump enthusiastically wrote, “Taken!” to him, and then you replied, “Fuck both of you.” I’m curious how you feel about the co-opting of “The Matrix” by those on the right who don’t really seem to understand its messaging.

Lilly Wachowski: I mean, I can’t sit in a room and explain the movie to every single person who watches it. Even if I did sit in a room with Elon Musk and Ivanka Trump — yikes — it doesn’t matter. They’re not misunderstanding the film; they’re co-opting a message. And that’s what fascists do: They co-opt the messages of progressives and use it to their benefit to confuse and obfuscate what is going on and the intention of their ideology. They do it with everything. They do it with Martin Luther King Jr. Look at how they’ve changed the idea of what antisemitism is.

MAHA is more than just vaccine hesitancy, but a 2023 meta-analysis shows vaccine skepticism is much more broadly distributed among socioeconomic positions than the below generalization suggests. It's not just a problem among rich white people. pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...
Income/Socioeconomic Status

Higher SES/income and higher vaccine hesitancy, 12 articles.

Lower SES/income and higher vaccine hesitancy, 11 articles.

Contrasting patterns were noted as to income/socio-economic status. An equal number of articles included in the review noted vaccine hesitancy in
association with both higher and lower income/SES.When asked to identify their most important health priority for government to address, far more MAHA-supporting voters identify lowering the cost of health care (42%) than other issues more closely associated with the movement, such as restricting the use of chemical additives in the food supply (21%), reevaluating the safety of vaccines (10%), limiting corporate influence on food policy (8%), or restricting the use of pesticides in agriculture (8%).
