In addition to the policy problem of what counts as baseline (no permitting for renewables), the "pattern of disparate treatment" language is just gross because it's lifted from antidiscrimination law and entails *intentional* discrimination only. www.congress.gov/crs-product/...

So obviously a lot of bad-faith BS in the UK and international press about the UK Greens passing a motion opposing Zionism. But after correctly noting that no ethnic group has a "right" to their own state, point 4 calls for a Palestinian one, which is problematic. actionnetwork.org/forms/stay-u...

OK time for a new exciting thread - hunting for any coverage of the Greens in the Victorian state election that discusses them in any way positively let alone discusses their actual policies (and opposition to ALP/LNP/ON promises of locking up kids, tax cuts for property investors & data centres).

Jeremy's Ear @jeremysear.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
They're all doing it. All the "news" organisations are flat-out erasing the Greens from their coverage. Reminder that in the last Victorian election, the last time we were ALL polled, the Greens got 11.5%. One Nation got 0.28%, less than 1/6th of the vote of say the Vic Socialists. And yet...

I'd like to see the Greens start attacking the ABC for this shit. Make them up their game. Worked for the right. Also end the fiction people believe that the ABC is somehow pro Greens. No, it's obsessed with trying to make One Nation happy.

Actually, ABC, I'd say there's one opposition now - the Greens. The rest (ALP, LNP, ON) are all varying degrees of the right - lock up kids, property investor tax cuts, data centres, cuts to public services and infrastructure. Weird you forgot to mention them? www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

Long past time for complaints to the ABC for its utter failure to properly - let alone fairly - cover progressive parties and candidates. Here they are pretending the only parties voters can choose between are on the right (incl Carroll's ALP). Complain. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

The ABC on the Victorian election: "There are 3 opposition parties. LNP, ON, and... The ALP premier campaigning to join them on the right!" According to the ABC, left voters and parties (eg the Greens) simply don't exist and won't be covered. Utterly captured. www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

Wow the twits at the ABC, Speers and Karvelas, opining that the Greens could fall apart like the Democrats - as if the Dems' crisis (are we left or centrists who pass shit like the GST?) could apply to a party which is very clearly and proudly left and where the leadership transition was smooth.

Isn't it great all the ways the new Victorian "Labor" premier is on a unity ticket with the LNP and ON? And how the Greens are the only party not, for example, committing to giving tax cuts to property investors (to be paid for by cuts to public infrastructure)? www.abc.net.au/news/2026-10...

I'd like to see the Greens take this on. The harm the RBA is inflicting on ordinary people (from which discontent ON benefits whilst literally supporting the causes) will make inflation *worse* while suppressing wages. Promise to take that power from the RBA! You'll get plenty of coverage.

Americans are relearning the lesson we learned during the Gilded Age of the late 1890s, when robber barons ran the government and the economy for their own benefit: Oligarchy is incompatible with the common good. I'm hopeful we'll respond with a new progressive movement.
