Congrats to my colleagues at CMU for releasing their Cerium library: github.com/CMU-CAOS/Cer... It's a multi-GPU FHE (CKKS) implementation that achieved really impressive performance on Llama-8B inference (to the tune of 20 seconds per token). I am excited to integrate it into HEIR!

Working on this topic a bit for my book, I learned that CORDIC is mostly not used anymore, except in very special circumstances where a hardware multiplier isn't available. Polynomial or rational approximations win the day on modern processors, for most functions.

This is exciting news! 95 pages of it :) The only wrinkle, possibly, is this statement (paraphrasing, and reading between the lines: 'we had to rush at the end, lest we might be scooped by OpenAI') h/t @aaroth.bsky.social

The current version of the manuscript is complete mathematically, but it is not in the shape we wished to share in. We have chosen to do so due to rumors that surfaced around Friday, September 11th. We will work on a more complete version of the manuscript in the close future

I've had a three-tier system for understanding mathematical results that I've used since undergrad. Tier 1: Understanding the formal statement of the theorem and its proof line by line, but not necessarily holistically. Basically, does it type check. Typically good enough for most research.

Google published a post on HEIR today, their open-source compiler that makes trained AI models run on encrypted data. Four demos shipped with it. We worked on two: fraud detection with Hardshell, and Kitsune for anomaly detection on encrypted network traffic. Good day for encrypted math.
