Terminal command or upscale fashion brand?
A black metal plate fixed to a sandy gray wall that reads, "ba&sh" in sandy gray letters. For some reason, only the "a" has a serif.

Highly recommend "monkey on the branch". Comfy, secure, doesn't kill your back. Baby's head and tummy rest on your forearm, with baby's weight pushing against your body, head in the crook of your arm, hand holds between legs. Great for one-handed chores, or walking places you need to open doors.

Someone sent me a socks problem and it took me WAY too long to find the set (subset of cards where all socks match up in pairs of the same style, i.e. even or can be zero)

"Freedom Foundation" sent a mailer to my teacher wife to ask her to opt out of union dues, implying that the right thing to spend that on is to donate it. Fuuuuuuck them
A mailer that says, now is the time to give back to you and yours. Opt out from your union dues and give back to the things that mean most to you. What would you give back to? Family? Friends? Charity?

Look at me I'm posting an image from another social network like a basic bitch. But THAT social network has typesetting 😀 and so the post reads nicer than if I retyped it here with no typesetting.
A math problem showed up organically in some work stuff:

Given a graph G you'd like to produce a subgraph G prime. G comes with a partition of vertices V1 through Vk with the constraint that, for each subset Vi, at least one vertex in Vi must remain in the final graph. The goal is to make G' colorable with as few colors as possible.

Anyone heard of something like this? It is almost surely NP-hard, but just curious.

My 5y/o had the lovely idea to be a jewel thief, and so we did this bit all over the faire where he would pickpocket my jewels and I'd yell "Thief! He's getting away!"
My boy "stealing" my jewels at the Ren faire. He is dressed in a tunic with a thin black cloak.

One small update to "FHE and the public" (www.jeremykun.com/fhe-and-the-...) includes a link to Apple's RWC talk and a note about one slide I found interesting in re Apple's stance on privacy.
A snippet from the linked blog post showing a slide with "Apple's privacy commitment: Client queries remain private, even from Apple", above an earlier billboard from Apple stating, "What happens on your iPhone, stays on your iPhone."

A badly lit photo, but this was the main claim from Apple in the talk about the promise to the users
A slide behind the speaker that says "Apple's privacy commitment" and under that "client queries remain private, even from Apple"

A nice note that privacy prevents a lot of metrics gathering, you can't know if your method is successful if it's fully private!
A slide that says "Real world systems need assessments"

Anyone want to go in for a group order of this "crypto means cryptography" shirt? I just kinda threw this design together but I like the retro theme with a modern mantra. www.customink.com/go/dmc0-00cv...

One of the very first digital photographs ever scanned was this photo of Russell Kirsch's 3-month-old son, Walden. Scanned in 1957, it's a 176x176 grayscale image composed from multiple 1-bit scans with varying intensity thresholds on the scanner. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell...

Heh, the first result isn't quite what I had in mind, but the second is, and I like how I don't have to sign up to try it.

Just look at these covers of "COMPTOMETER NEWS" magazine www.jaapsch.net/mechcalc/comptomete…
A magazine cover featuring a blue-dressed woman in high heels carrying what appears to be a diploma, facing toward a circle-cutout of a government building amidst towering skyscrapers and a red-orange sky.

I would love to have a hand-crank-driven Comptometer: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comptometer This thing looks so cool! And it has the 9-s complement digit on each key so that you can subtract without turning the gears backwards
A gorgeous, brass-colored Comptometer, with hand a row of clicky-clacky push-buttons and two hand cranks that presumably compute stuff

Do you want more math content? Because that's how you get more math content. Aperiodic monotile scones.
