Our health care is going from 1700 ish per month for a gold plan to 2400 ish per month for a bronze plan. To stay with our existing plan would have been about 3400 per month. I will hit my oop of over 9000 in the first 90 days of 2026.

I keep seeing on the news people in the cup style N95 masks, but they haven't fit the nosepiece to their nose. The masks work better if you pinch the metal around your nose just enough to make it follow the curve of your face. Masks are only as good as they fit.

I take a fairly unusual anticoagulant. I've been trying to refill it for weeks, I'm down to 19 doses (I usually refill every 3 weeks to build up a buffer for shortfalls like this) from a high of 2 months "buffer". My next refill will be 20 doses, and then the shortage might before. This time.

we've narrowed our family contacts down to the people we can bear to eat a meal with. That works nicely. Fortunately I was born to a couple of lifelong democrats. So while we're not anticipating a celebratory meal, we're all unhappy for the same reasons.

As someone who has had full blown whooping cough, let me tell you exactly how much you do not want to have full blown whooping cough. I was so sick. I cracked a rib, coughing. My lungs were so gluey I ended up putting my cpap on and keeping it on nearly 24/7 for more than a week.

Having lived with vote-by-mail for everyone for the last 20+ years I can say that it is genuinely baffling to me that anyone who has to vote would rather do it any other way. The Oregon model works, is convenient, secure and way, way easier than the alternative. Probably cheaper.

I live in a school district which provides breakfast and lunch free for all students in district if they want it. Decent stuff, too. 100% worth whatever it cost (I think they actually saved money when they fired the corporate lunch program that was feeding kids garbage.)
