The deep irony of "getting rid of dei to promote exceptionalism" and then promptly having to lower standards to get people to show up to work.

We will be able to handle the cost, not without pain, for a while. But most of the people I've heard of who were on marketplace plans flat out cannot afford the increase. I'm disabled but do not qualify for disability assistance.

This year it was $10 per month for that same drug. OOP that drug is about $1700 per month. It's a drug necessary to my survival and the only one in its class that I tolerate consistently and well.

I'm on one drug that is generic but expensive. The plan we're going to has $25 copays for generics but another bronze plan that said it had that counts my expensive generic as a specialty drug. There is no copay assistance, so we will spend a couple hundy per month more for this plan.

Jenrose @jenroses.bsky.social · 19/12/2025
But I'm going from $20 copays for pt to subject to the deductible pt and my pt just agreed to let me pay $100 per month to even out the ridiculous frontloading bronze plans create. Mental health goes from $20 per visit to $50 per visit so I'm dropping from weekly to twice a month.

Jenrose @jenroses.bsky.social · 19/12/2025
Now this will, assuming no medical emergencies in the first quarter of 2026, be somewhat lower because of copay assistance on my name brand drugs. Emgality and trulicity alone will offset at least a couple grand per month.

I believe the oop for a gold plan was maybe a couple thousand lower but i would hit that within 5 months or so (due to differences in how the prescription copays happen). Our estimated total cost for a gold plan was over 48,000 dollars. About 39,000 for bronze.

Jenrose @jenroses.bsky.social · 19/12/2025
Our health care is going from 1700 ish per month for a gold plan to 2400 ish per month for a bronze plan. To stay with our existing plan would have been about 3400 per month. I will hit my oop of over 9000 in the first 90 days of 2026.

I was able to drive and attend a con 2 months after surgery, and recently started emgality for migraines which works GREAT. My base pain level when sitting is now like a 2-3. Standing is less reliable and can be very difficult but that's not new. I can deal with not standing as much.

Tinzanidine, ftw. Still breathing, only mildly loopy and mostly from lack of pain.

Jenrose @jenroses.bsky.social · 14/06/2025
but also high doses of antihistamines may affect muscle function anyway and yet are also very important to continued breathing and having skin that isn't constantly itchy. So what to do?

Jenrose @jenroses.bsky.social · 14/06/2025
@rahaeli.bsky.social any info on the effects of antihistamines on muscle recovery and how to balance the trade-off for mast cell stuff? I just had back surgery and the antihistamines are not compatible with muscle relaxers, which is a problem...

It’s nearly impossible to explain to non disabled people the hope we had at the beginning of the pandemic. Hope for inclusion & accommodation. For better awareness & treatment of chronic illness. Having that hope ripped away and replaced with increasing ableism, eugenics & hatred? Its devastating

The good news is that the mbb actually drastically reduced my pain. The bad news is that nothign they're doing is actually FIXinG the underlying issues, it's all "make you not feel that something is wrong" which is creepy as fuck.

I apparently don't have a habit forming ability. I have to be mindful to actually take drugs on a schedule. But there's nothing I can just take as maintenance, routinely, that actually works. When I stand up, lightning strikes down the back of my leg. When I sit, everything goes wrong.

Going off most of my comfort measures pre-procedure shows me that my background level of pain is probably a 9 and that my various comfort measures take me down to a 6 most of the time and sometimes as low as a 5 is a goddamn miracle.

Hot showers sometimes help. Basically I just nibble the edges of the pain with various not ideal things and hope to god the nerve ablation works. Someday. PT helps some. astym and gua sha help some. KT tape helps some.

Nurtec helps my head a little, sometimes. Duloxetine mitigates a bit of the spinal pain but not enough of it. Turmeric is apparently a heavy lifter as going off it for surgery is torture.

Tramadol sent my bp through the roof. I have naproxen which I dare to take every 3-4 days but can't do continuously. Lidocaine patches are helping save my life right now, but they're 12 on 12 off, supposedly.

My main doc once said, "I can't prescribe oxycodone for you to use like asprin" and I was like, "Ma'am, I cannot take aspirin." I also am not supposed to do NSAIDS because anticoagulant. And my liver is iffy enough without using tylenol.

But also the headache/constipation means I literally can't get addicted because the consequences of taking multiple doses in a row is Not Worth It. But I don't have other good pain options.
140
Jenrose @jenroses.bsky.social · 13/01/2025
oddly this means they will happily shove oxy at me because when I tell them my dose is less than one tablet they're just like, "Have as much as you want." Turns out I have this weird thing where I'm very sensitive to opiates so I'm an incredible lightweight with them.

Jenrose @jenroses.bsky.social · 13/01/2025
Weirdly my pain med issues are nearly opposite. If I take enough oxycodone to actually treat my pain effectively, I get splitting headaches. Hence, my maximum single dose for anything nonsurgical is 3/4 of one tablet, which is up from a quarter tablet a few years ago.
