Is preschoolers' word learning affected by positive/negative (simulated) classroom vibes and/or individual peers' affect? The answer may surprise you - it surprised us! New paper based on Courtney Snoberger's Honors thesis and mentored by Ellie Breitfeld. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

New paper 🍼📄 ManyBabies 3 is out (open access, registered report in Developmental Science). 30 labs, 33 languages, 839 infants set out to replicate a textbook finding: 7-month-olds learn abstract rules from speech (@garymarcus.bsky.social et al., 1999). We didn’t find it. 🧵

The OMB has proposed rules that would, among other things, have political appointees override peer review and allow sudden grant termination. This morning I wrote a comment on this proposal in my own words. It only took a few minutes. You can do the same: www.regulations.gov/document/OMB...

Brockman's email response to Epstein is telling. Among other things, he writes "What I learned... is to be less scornful and more supportive toward the role of women scientists. I would hope you could get to that place as well." He also refers to Epstein as his "most dependable friend" (in 2018).

Vile comment by Epstein about the program for an upcoming academic conference. Forget about diversity, and “the women are all weak and a distraction.” In 2018 no less. Makes you wonder what else goes on behind the scenes in academia (power, $$, etc).
