Cool points, a system in crisis. However, some problems of extractive behavior (& strategy) by big publishers seem to be missing. It is not the changing corporate landscape alone (incl. monopolies, extraction, powerplay against public partners) that will crunch the system, but mere technology.

Ultimately, journal publishing, which is fuelled by volunteer labour by editorial teams and reviewers, is at risk of collapse. If we want it to continue as a dominant mode of scholarly knowledge production, we all need to do the necessary work.

Does anyone outside Canada have a clue of how difficult it is to get 78% of Canadians to agree on anything - which in this poll is that 86% of those with an opinion want strong counter-tariffs against the U.S. gangster regime? 86% of Canadians don't agree that hockey is a sport played on ice.
