One reason England does so well is our second generation immigrants outperform their peers which is not true in most OECD countries. We are also very good at integration. And it's v sad that this is never acknowledge in debates on immigration.

And beyond mere productivity, there is much loveliness in what is to come. Having a sister who has lived in the tropics for the past decade and who misses the colder months has made me extra appreciative of the seasons, and autumn is a particularly delightful one. I love watching the leaves turn yellow and red and golden before falling off the trees for me to crunch underfoot; I love the abundance of root vegetables and the opportunity to make delicious warming soups; I even love the longer nights and the excuse they give me to spend my evenings curled up on the sofa with no pressure to be out gallivanting somewhere.
