Young people are falling out of love with technology. They want it and need it, sure, but they also hate it, feel enslaved by it and, unlike any other generation, long for the past, writes Jemima Kelly. Read @jemima.bsky.social in today's FT Edit 👉 ft.trib.al/miFZSMp

Do we feel enslaved by technology. I have to admit, I am watching too many reels and shorts and I want to change that. Anyway, interesting piece by @jemima.bsky.social

I had a bit of a battle over which photos were used... (the ones chosen were NOT my picks!!)... but yes, I agree. The exercise is one thing, being followed around by a photographer as you sweat more than you ever have in your whole life is quite another

Gosh yeah, that really sucks. My sense is that a significant majority of people would find Farage's laughter at someone crying (and you can see her emotions are genuine) irksome - maybe I'm too optimistic but I think even the people you describe might feel that when confronted by it

Jemima Kelly @jemima.bsky.social · 17/09/2026
I was actually going to write something in my post about the difference from Trump - he has way better instincts than Farage, he knows it would look bad to laugh at someone crying and just he wouldn't do it imo

One reason England does so well is our second generation immigrants outperform their peers which is not true in most OECD countries. We are also very good at integration. And it's v sad that this is never acknowledge in debates on immigration.

Easy to feel sad that the summer is coming to an end but @jemima.bsky.social reminds us of what there is to look forward to in the autumn www.ft.com/content/ba32...
And beyond mere productivity, there is much loveliness in what is to come. Having a sister who has lived in the tropics for the past decade and who misses the colder months has made me extra appreciative of the seasons, and autumn is a particularly delightful one. I love watching the leaves turn yellow and red and golden before falling off the trees for me to crunch underfoot; I love the abundance of root vegetables and the opportunity to make delicious warming soups; I even love the longer nights and the excuse they give me to spend my evenings curled up on the sofa with no pressure to be out gallivanting somewhere.
