💐 for @omgjulia.bsky.social and everyone on another jam-packed TOC 😄. Still one of my top storyteller joys getting the chance to work with Julia and be part of WoP. Much I've read truly grew the possibilities for me, affirmed there was space to tell with heart and imagination wide and to the front.
Worlds of Possibility Volume 2 Edited by Julia Rios in a bubbly blue outlined white font on spine of book with a glimmery blue-white band across a reddish purple backdrop. On cover slightly out of focus, below title, a diademed figure in a blue dress with hand outstretched to blue apparitions of a dragon and cat.Excerpt of first paragraphs "Recipes for the Course of Living" by Jeané D. Ridges:
[a clustered trio of black stars]
You haphazardly park in your floatlodge’s dock. Bout kick open your glider’s door in frustration, fidgeting till it finishes unfolding. Thankfully, your neighbors’ are empty because you know the Abdellah flock would gripe, Mx. Wuti would fuss, and you’re exhausted with communing to
others even if it’s out of concern for you.

Due to the flashes of the sinking moon, your lodge’s vapor-
panels—mimicking it and its abutting roofs’ moss—sparkle throughout the rigid foam of its exterior. Unlocking the door [end excerpt]

Still in the joy glow from seeing Kehlani Monday. It was a beautiful celebration of her, r&b, love of the art of art. Just 💐 on 💐. The good feels when listening to her whether it's the music, watching her clown, or speak her truth. I've often felt recentered, activated in my own work too.

Time for a spec short-form spotlight. I don't always enjoy (or can read—time and brain nopes) everything my favorite publications put out; which makes when that happens all the sweeter. But the work I experience engages, is unabashed with imagination and wondering or pushing, encourages feeling. 🧵🔡

Me unboxing This Mortal Coil @bonedustpress.bsky.social 😃! And yasss that's Call and Response by @seraph76.bsky.social fresh from the lib! (I been eager to read, but wanted to see if they'd go for another indie request and they did 😄.) The kind of stories that sustain my love for fantastical spec.
To the left, This Mortal Coil (written by Jasmine Walls, illustrated by Marie Enger, cover by Jan and Vlad Schwarts, and published by Bonedust Press) next to paper miniatures of its main characters (in the foreground of the spire-and-tree backdropped book cover), Marrow, a skeleton-trapped spirit, and a broken gold sword, as well as a 4-square stone platform. To the right, Christopher Caldwell's Call and Response: Stories of the Fantastic (cover, designed by dave ring, a washy swirl of red, white, and blue with bold, curly font for title; published by Neon Hemlock) on a Strand tote with a "Sweet Land of Libraries" button beside one where a baseball-caped person wheels books as they blow a gum bubble (bit fuzzy above Call and Response, another that says, "I can read").

Someone You Can Build a Nest In and The Dragon Has Some Complaints by John Wiswell. Latter can see a corner of cover with jars and length of chain as well as upper half of the sharp-toothed and -hatted Shesheshen; former shows three dragon heads: one monocoled, another snarling, and last happy as receives skritches from a laugh-smiling seated person with flowing hair.

From a flash out on sub (that I'll be reading for my class 😁) #WIPSnips #WriteSky #WritingCommunity #WritingPrompts
Excerpt from "Immortality with Backache" by Jeané:
The quickness with which ci swings around nearly results in another collision, but they both just give in to fits of snorting. Laughter satisfied, the trade is made, antlers tapped, and there’s an agreement to message later.
When Tevor reaches their collaborators, a single-serve trough of goodies is thrust upon them—shrub-berry pupusas and a sunflower seed, acorn adorned leafy mix.
Anihlan gnaws the remains of a hot-sauced goat leg and a black napkin floats over to clean ihs muzzle. “Who dat?”
Tevor licks jam from their snout. “Cici, no joke ci, a fan of ours seeking community.”
Demy sips a nectini, flourishing wings, brass slashes glinting. “Excellent taste, and ci came to the right place.”
“Not to ruin dis rhyme scheme wit business—”
Tevor jabs a hoof. “Nah ah, Anihlan, no business until we are coffee, or tea, sloshed and at our plotting table on tomorrow.”

This workshop is a gathering from years of pouring love and care and breath into my work/characters/worlds which helped me nourish how I did in this here beyond self. Immeasurable gratitude and I can't wait to hold this space with folks to language and dream conjure tapping into that energy.

I remember part of how LeVar Burton signed off from his pod was to say of its producer, I think, she was the best in the business, and that's how I feel about this one-of-a-kind mag/its crew. I've grown as an editor, caretaker of stories, and it's a true, constant joy whenever an issue is afoot.
